Allow me to be a bit of a fan boy for a minute. I am psyched about this. there's a group here called Terminus Legion(SWEET name) thats been trying to get the MLS here for years. I personally think it will be wildly successful. Soccer is actually a pretty big sport down here and the local NASL team has pretty good support for 2nd teir soccer. Having Arthur blank as the owner really helps because he already owns the most supported franchise in the city. and the new stadium actually has a soccer configuration for more intamate crowds less than 30K (soccer not pictured but still new tweaks being made on the website:

I've already put MLSAtlanta on notice that I will be seeking Media Credentials. Probably one of two Pro creds I'll be seeking (trying to decide if I'm going to request Falcons or Hawks for next season. Will probably opt for Falcons).
The seating configs are actually a rather unique concept, since the lower bowl will have retractable seating, depending on the type of event being held. They're also going to have REAL grass available, as needed. With these features, the chance of the new ATL Stadium being able to host a World Cup in the near future is now a realistic possibility.
FFG, one of these days we're gonna get to meet in person, dude. Just hope it's not all the way into 2017 when we do, haha!

I'm sure FFG will be in attendance whenever Liberty & Ga State meet in Atlanta. We're currently scheduled to meet in 2015.

Not if Mercer is playing.

This guy says the surface will by synthetic:

But this is good news. Also means there is room for one more team to get to 24, assuming Beckham gets his team going and Chivas survives.

HA i'll be in Atlanta alot this summer preparing for the wedding. I meant to try and make it to a Georgia State basketball this year but our bball team was doing so well i opted to stay down here in Macon. If you are in Atl and have some spare time take the hour drive down 75 to macon and i'll give you the nickel tour.

You have no idea how badly I want that game to be played during Our(Mercer's) bye week.

I think this is the sign of the end for my dream of Baltimore United/Baltimore Blue Claws FC. But I do think Atlanta is a good move though, a lot better than a third team in NYC and LA. Only hope for me now is Chivas failing even more than they already have and Kevin Planck, Steve Biscotti or Peter Angelos seeing dollar signs, buying them and relocating them. Kevin Planck would probably benefit most, that would probably get him negotiating power in a jersey deal with MLS and a new flagship professional team for his brand.

A post from Jake about Baltimore? No way.

I do think Atlanta is a good move, it's a bigger market has no overlap with other MLS fanbases in it's general area and will easily develop rivalries with Miami(who I still think should be called "Vice") and Orlando. There an on topic post.

Oh, don't sweat Miami... their owner was in town for our presser yesterday. Even publicly made a bet with Arthur Blank during the Q&A session. Yeah, I could see that rivalry heating up REAL quick.

I think NYCFC through their connection to the Yankees AND Manchester City and on top of that actually playing in New York City with a plan for a home of their own in place they will do A LOT better than the cheap and lazy energy drink advertisement that plays in an empty stadium in the middle of nowhere. Because of the Man City connection their jerseys will look a million times better than that other team. No matter how good these rivalries get none of them will ever touch Portland-Seattle and I'm a DC United fan.

I know the BJ comparison has been made, but jake reminds me of a young jbock.

I think they're expanding too fast. The league was getting good and this will just deplete it again.

I'd like to think I've matured a lot since then. Or maybe I just keep my mouth shut more.

That's a new one, I think this comparison is better...maybe

You obviously never interacted with young jbock. He's definitely grown up quite a bit.

I'm still hoping for the carolina railhawks to make the move up, great organization and good fan support in the triangle

Now that I actually know how it works I think MLS should adopt an open league system with the NASL and lower divisions of US Soccer. It would take a ridiculous amount of changes in all the leagues but I think it could work.

Don't know if they've discussed it, or even if it's possible, but I wouldn't be surprised if the league pursued putting a team in Mexico....eventually.

The MLS is still around?

Yes, the MLS is still around and doing increasingly well at the gate.
As for Mexico expansion, I simply don't see it. The only reason there are teams in the MLS in Canada is that our neighbors to the north couldn't sustain their own 1st division. So the MLS has become a sort of Can-Am operation. I could even see a Caribbean franchise before Mexico. Keep in mind that Liga MX is a highly profitable league south of the border. Even with the Chivas USA mess, the parent team in Guadalajara is wildly successful.
Now if we were talking the other leagues (MLB, NFL or NBA), I could see a franchise in Mexico in the next decade. And with the oil deregulation likely generating considerable wealth in the nation, it could happen even sooner.

When they can't watch their team play, unless they go to Crew Stadium or have Time Warner, this is all they can do. But this is still one of the better expansion team insults I've seen.

It's pretty awesome, but realistically how many Atlantians/Georgians know who that is even if they were told his name?
