Christian Bros from SlyFox's Countr...I mean state...were burning up the XC course this past week...keep in mind Abilene Christian is division II, and had the top runner in the meet and as a team finished second only to Division 1 National Powerhouse Arkansas...we need to get some of the recruiting juice those guys consistently have year in and year out (the McDougall tandem was a windfall for LU, but to sustain growth past this four year gap, LU needs to open up a pipeline like the guys at Abilene have...

Naimadu cruises to win

STILLWATER, Okla. -- ACU distance standout Nicodemus Naimadu cruised to the individual win Saturday at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree, helping the Wildcat men's team to a second-place finish behind Arkansas.

Naimadu, undefeated this season in three races, set the course record in the race, covering the 8000-meter course in 23:53 to beat John Kosgei of South Plains College by a mere two seconds. Peter Kosgei of Arkansas was third in the individual race, finishing in 24:13.

Arkansas had four runners finish in the top 10 and all five were in the top 15 as the Razorbacks scored 40 points to beat ACU by 24 points. The Wildcats, who had 64 points, had three runners in the top 11 and four in the top 16. The hosts from Oklahoma State finished third with 80 points, followed by Colorado School of Mines in fourth with 155 points and Tulsa in fifth with 158 points.

Naimadu was able to take advantage of near-perfect weather conditions Saturday to win the race.

"Nicodemus ran a great race," ACU head coach Derek Hood said. "The conditions were great and he ran a smokin' time."

Philip Birgen was eighth overall in 24:44, followed by Julius Nyango in 11th (24:56), Serge Gasore in 16th (25:13) and Laurent Ngirkamaro in 28th (25:59).

"I'm really proud of how we ran (today)," Hood said. "This was really our first test of the season, and it gives us a good indication of how good our team can be this season."

On the women's side, ACU didn't send enough runners to finish in the team standings, but Loice Cheboi was 21st overall, covering the 5000-meter course in 18:37, while Olha Kryv'yak was 23rd in 18:42.

The ACU men's and women's teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they run at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.

Upon further examination, this would be why they are so deep in the XC area: (still, tapping into that pipeline to balance with homegrown talent would be helpful.)

ACU's track teams are legendary in DII circles and they recruit Americans there in addition to the internationals.
