I just witnessed maybe the greatest football game comeback in my lifetime, and no one has said a word about it? He may have struggled in the first half, but Winston was clutch in that 4th quarter!

We lost our power at halftime. Didn't come back on until 1am. Wasn't too happy about that.

If we were to believe BYD, a Big XII team knocked around the best team in the country.

Somebody on this board should remember the Oilers-Bills playoff game two decades ago. I was working at a CBS station that night in South Texas grimmacing with each score. That nightly sportscast was like a eulogy.

I was living in the Chicago area and working on a Biblical Hebrew project

And I don't believe Oklahoma was the Best Big XII team. And Duke gave Johnny Football's team a good run

greatest ever.

one of my fav's is the 2006 rosebowl. while not a huge deficit, espn made a weeklong stink of ranking this usc team as the greatest of all time. had a bracket with all the other great teams and just basically gave them the championship.

Led by the second-greatest backup qb in history (after Steve Young). Frank won those Bills teams some tough games back then.

people don't really remember he was THE qb for most of the playoffs in 93.

chicago bears fans could of learned a thing or two about the bills and that kelly/reich relationship. now cutler is certainly no kelly but riech could of started on a few teams.

Really? I guess an argument could be made for Alabama being a better team, but who else in the SEC would you put in front of Auburn?

Been a Florida State fan my entire life and on top of that I work with quite possibly the most obnoxious Auburn fan I have ever met in my entire life. He is probably the most obnoxious fan of any team or school I have ever met in my life. If they had won our entire office would've hated our lives. The lifetime fan inside was extremely excited but having a peaceful day at work made it that much sweeter.

I think Alabama's showing against Oklahoma showed that Auburn and bama were closer talent wise than originally thought. Aside from bama there is not a good argument to be made for anybody else in that conference being better.

While the success of the SEC cannot be denied, I do not think that, before even 24 hours have passed since one of the best BCS championship games ever (in my view), and before we really even get a look at who all will be back for everyone and who will be going after the money on Sundays, that we a) reserve more than one spot at the college football playoff table for them or b) hand them the title before we even hit spring football. You certainly will have quite a few teams in the discussion but the games still have to be played and anything can happen. For now though, the reign of terror by the SEC in the BCS ended along with the BCS last night and Im going to sit back and enjoy watching the epic final 5 minutes on DVR at my parents' house.

due to where they are located, i think sec gets the best players and generally has the overall majority of the best teams. that being said, i believe at some point there will be an 8/16 game playoff and at that time, the sec will end its dominance of college football. i think non top tier sec teams get higher rankings than deserved. but that is because of the tremendous lobby the sec has. big 10 is utterly horrible scheduling wise at getting teams recognized earlier and get them up the polls sooner.

I hope we never get to an 8 or 16 team playoff. It will water down the entire season and week 2 matchups won't matter like they do now. A 4 team playoff is perfect and it should stay that way. It keeps this brand of college football very special.

As far as the SEC goes I think they are slowly coming back down to earth a bit and aren't nearly as strong as ESPN's hype machine would love for everybody to think. They are the best football conference in the country and there is no real argument against that. Everything else being debated is based off of mere opinion.

BuryYourDuke wrote:It's all an argument without proof, that's what makes college football so interesting. However, I would argue that Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina were better teams than Auburn. Remember that it took a literal miracle for Auburn to get by a Georgia team with most of its starters out. Auburn had literally the luckiest run in the history of college football.

Like I said, Florida State ran the table, played a great second half last night and deserves the crystal ball. However, just like in the regular season, they benefited from their schedule in the post season as well.

The SEC dominance will continue, anybody who believes otherwise is living in a dream world.
Find me a team in recent memory who didn't have some measure of luck during their run and I'll chalk one up to you.

LSU for once had a solid offense led by Mettenberger and they did get the win against Auburn, though it was at home in one of the most hostile stadiums in all of college football. Had LSU's defense been as good as the past 8 years, I'd probably buy your argument for them. I can't though... they were too inconsistent and made too many mental mistakes against weaker opponents (ie Ole Miss). They finished out their year with a mediocre win against Iowa.

South Carolina had similar issues to LSU relating to consistency. They had two solid wins against Mizzou and Clemson, but they lost to a UT team that finished 5-7 on the year and they BARELY beat Florida, who was awful this year. I'm really surprised you thought they were better than Auburn.

I'll let the Alabama comment live on as I agree that Alabama probably has more talent on their team. But Malzahn had his guys ready to go and in the end the dice rolled their way in what was one of the most epic finishes to a game ever. Sure it might have been "lucky", but they played hard that night and put themselves in a situation to capitalize on the situation to end the game.

And I'll agree with you... FSU played an easier schedule. But they dominated the schedule nonetheless. Their smallest margin of victory was 14 pts... They dismantled a high-flying Clemson team in Clemson, SC and they destroyed Duke in the ACC Championship game. And before you say anything about the Duke mention, remember what Duke did to Texas A&M in that bowl game. Duke turned heads this season, and without the heroics of Johnny Manziel - they win that game easily. I think we can expect the SEC to win a few of the new era championships, but it seems that the ACC is finally getting its football act together. Clemson is a real threat (impressive win against UGA), FSU is already there, Miami is making a comeback along with UNC (as long as they avoid sanctions in the future) and there is always a wildcard team in the mix (VT, Duke, Pitt, and next season Louisville). So you can expect plenty of competition and wins from the ACC in the future vs. SEC teams.
