A .500 record in itself is indicative of good and bad. Some games you flourished, some games you struggled. And as was well chronicled this fall, Monmouth football’s season featured plenty of ups and downs, highlighted by sensational performances and fluke plays that would make any coach’s heart rate be constantly all over the place.

When NewJerseyNewsroom.com spoke to head coach Kevin Callahan two weeks after the Hawks’ 6-6 season ended, he highlighted those inconsistencies, beginning with the fact of how much the Hawks record was tied to how the game began. They were 6-0 when they led or were tied at halftime and 0-6 when they didn’t.
And here are the references of note to joining the Big South ...
“Are we ready for the Big South?” Callahan asked rhetorically. “We don’t have a choice. We gotta be ready. We’re playing in the Big South this year,” he continues with a brief laugh.

“You know, I think we have some developing to do. We’re still some 20-some scholarships below what the Big South has. So we have some group to make up there. We saw an example of the level of play that exists in the Big South when we played Liberty. So I think there’s not a player on our team or a coach that looks and says, ‘We got some improvements to make.'"

I guess Liberty is nothing to be scared of, huh. Is that really what he meant?
