There are some big shoes to fill at the 40 Acres.

With Briles locked up with a new deal in Waco, I am not sure who gets what is arguably the best gig in college football. Harbaugh & Tomlin seem to be getting the most attention. Malzahn & Gundy are also generating some buzz. Gus is certainly the hot college option.

Very interesting that there are huge head coaching opening in both Austin & Houston right now.

I heard Nick Saban has taken the job for 10 million a year and 1 percent of the Longhorn Network, and is already hiring assistant coaches.

That would be fine with me.

He seems to be a great coach and his "dream job" has always been Texas. Why not? Of course, it couldn't happen until after bowl season.

I just finished reading a couple more articles about Mack... I think it is sad for him to be pushed out like he is... but it was also time for him to go. That was evident when he tweeted: "I'm in Florida recruiting. If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here." One of his greatest failures in recent years has been in the area of recruiting. If he is "killing" himself by taking a trip to FL, the writing was on the wall.

I saw that and a tweet about it that summed it up perfectly: "What he calls killing it others call work." And on top of that, when yo are Texas and there are three straight Heisman QB winners that you fail to recruit or don't recruit to play the QB position, your butt has to go

Yes, so? If they want him, and he wanted to, he could go. (Same with Saban)

Very immature comment to insult Gus Malzahn offense as a trick.... 2 BCS championship games, 2 SEC titles, won at Ark State.... dude has won every where hes been... I hope they do hire him! He will dominate.

I love Art! But his new deal in Waco was structured specifically to keep him out of Austin. I wonder if there is any traction to all of these rumors of him going to DC.

As for UT, the rumor mill is working overtime right now.

And if Texas is not the best gig in college football, I would love to hear an argument for any other school. I might accept discussions of ND based on perceived prestige. But that's realistically the only other option and even that is a stretch.

Bill O'Brien, maybe? His name is also coming up for the Redskins, assuming the tanned one is gone.

And why doesn't Gary Patterson's name come up? Is he stuck at TCU forever?

Bill O'Brien's name has come up for both the Longhorns & Texans positions. His buyout is huge but both teams can afford him.

And Haize, those are all great programs but they don't have the resources in Austin at the coach's disposal.

As for Patterson, I don't believe he has the charisma to be UT head coach. He is in the perfect location for him.

By a hair.

How many National Titles has it brought the Longhorns?

It's kind of like how we rag about the resources we have at liberty but what has it gotten us. Resources are great but it hasn't done a whole lot for Texas in football.

Exactly. I was unaware that having the most money made you the most desirable job.
The ones I listed have plenty of money and support.

The Mountaineers need to dump Dana and move Doc up from the JV team!

Money is just the tip of the iceberg. The school is in an incredible city that blows recruits away. It also is located in the middle of arguably the most fertile recruiting zone in the nation so talent should never be even a slight concern. Only the Florida schools and Southern California compare from a recruiting perspective. It is in a top tier conference that isn't as tough to win in most years as some of the others. But I wouldn't expect you lifelong East Coasties & SEC Country guys to understand anything that you haven't experienced.

Let's just say that down here in Texas that most believe Mack has underachieved since the championship season 8 years ago. I believe they are correct. A quality coach should be competing for a national championship nearly every year down here. Those in the coaching profession recognize this and that is why the heavyweight names are having their people promote them as candidates.

I don't doubt all of that but it hasn't resulted in much and results is all that matters to me.
