I keep hearing how the Big 10 is so much better than other conferences in basketball but I'm a little confused. Over the past 25 years, the Big 10 has 2 champions. Your last one was in 2000.
Big 12 has 2
Pac 12 has 2
Big East has 4
SEC has 6
ACC has 8
In a tournament where there aren't very many strong teams, why would I believe this year will be any different than years past?

Are you sure they're not talking about this year? I'm not sure there's anybody who would argue that the Big 10 is so much better over the last 25 years. Also, the champion of a 6 round single elimination tournament isn't the best way to determine the best conference.

Why not? If isn't the best way to determine the best conference, how is it the best way to determine the best team? My only point is that the Big 10 traditionally advertises themselves as this basketball powerhouse. At least that's what I keep hearing.

I've always heard about the ACC and Big East as the traditional power basketball conferences. The SEC and Big Ten are usually mentioned after those two.

Big East (for now) is probably the best. Second is probably the Big 10, Third is the Big 12. The ACC has been overrated for many years... Duke, usually UNC, but who else is even consistent? Miami will lose once they finally play someone away from home. This is the same Miami team that lost to FGSU.

Oops. Knew that. Good catch.

BTW, FGCU is a top 100 RPI team. Sure, Miami should have won the game, but it's not the worst loss ever or anything.

Maybe if you did the overall records of the conferences in the tournament over the last 25 years. But if a league has one good team and they win the whole thing, that doesn't mean the conference is good. Also, as a general rule of comparing sports teams/leagues, I like to use the most recent 10-15 years. Nobody cares who was good in 1988.

No one I know of who is a Big 10 fan has thought they've been the top basketball conference in about a decade. This year is different. In football, they've been over rated for 20 years.
Now if you are talking overall athletic programs the B1G is right up there.

THIS YEAR, Big 10 is best MBB conference, hands down.
Last 10 years? Probably Big East.
All-time? Big 10, Big East and ACC all have arguments.

Big Ten always gets cred for being a top notch basketball conference and they always flame out in the tournament. Always overrated based on NCAA Tournament performance.

That's one team and they just won a championship last year. The last time the Big 10 won was over a decade ago.
The best non-conference win for Indiana, who is the best team in the Big 10 came against UNC. They also lost to Butler.
Michigan St. has one good non-conference win against Kansas, but lost to UConn and Miami.
Wisconsin, who I think is the biggest joke of the conference but is 3rd right now in standings, lost to Creighton, UVA and Marquette and has zero good non-conference wins.
Michigan didn't lost a non-conference game but outside of K-St., they played a bunch of nobody's.
Ohio St. has zero good non-conference wins.
I just don't see how this resume puts together the best conference in the country. It wouldn't surprise me if only one Big 10 team is playing in the Sweet 16 and none of them are in the Final Four. If this is the best conference in America, this must be a much weaker field than I originally thought.

Ok, I can accept some of that thinking. Based on this same logic (non-conference results), what is this year's best conference?

your premise is completely flawed. noone is saying the big 10 is always the best/better conferences. and championship games would be a terrible way to attempt to judge a conference.
where are all these amazing non conference wins by other conferences? the big 10 has the best record against top 25 opponents. the big east is almost right there. and nevermind the big 10 has played more top 25 opponents than anyone else.
outside of duke and maybe kansas, no other team in any other conference is beating ranked teams like cupcakes....i think by the end of the conference tourney's the big east is going to have taken over. some of those teams are getting better as the season goes on.
