How is Auburn so bad?

They are now 1-5 with there only win coming again Louisiana-Monroe in overtime. They helped Ole MIss end a very long conference losing streak today (16 games) and they show no signs of improvement. They are only 9-10 since Newton left. However they have had really good recruiting classes the last few years.
Why are they so bad? Is Gene Chizik really that bad of a coach but Cam Newton was good enough to make up for it?
And my biggest question...should Chizik be worried about his job just two short years after winning a National Title?

Lightning in a bottle. He's 36-34 overall even with the 14-0 season with Cam. Take that season out and he's 17-15 at Auburn. Everything went their way that season. He may be the worst modern head coach to win a "National Title." Basically he's Bo Pellini, great coordinator who is over his head with the top spot, who got lucky with an amazing season.

Let's not forget Chizik was 5-19 at Iowa State who got infinitely better the moment he left and Paul Rhoads showed up. Iowa State made 3 bowls in 5 years before Chizik and looks like they'll make 3 in 4 years after him. Auburn recruits by name value alone, Chizik adds nothing to the talent they bring in.

Maybe they stopped allegedly paying players and/or parents after the Cam Newton scandal?

Probably not, but he should be. I'm guessing they'll try to force him to hire new coordinators and maybe get rid of him if he refuses.

I wouldn't fully blame Chizik. They need a new offensive coordinator and a competent QB. Ted Roof did so much damage to that offense, and they're still trying to rebuild it. I'm a bit of an Auburn fan after visiting the campus back in the Spring. One of my good friends is a die hard Auburn fan and said most people are putting faith in this kid as a future QB: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footb ... my-johnson

It's pretty much agreed that Chizik had very little to do with that championship. However, the Auburn issues this season are deeper than Chizik. Just because you are having a few down years, doesn't mean it's time to git rid of your head coach. This team is very very young and they're playing in, by far, the best conference in the country.

Yep, and it's an NCCAA Championship. And Kentucky has 8 NCAA Division I Championships. Heck, I'll even play into your silly little Cal pays propaganda and say they will have seven once the 2012 title gets vacated. And that will still be six more titles than Liberty will ever have.

They need a new offensive coordinator and a competent QB? Isn't it ultimately the head coach's job to fulfill both those spots with competent personnel?

LSU's QBs suck, I think they are doing quite well.

I was just answering your question. You are the one being defensive. Heck, you're ahead of the NCAA in vacating last years title!

Nah, I'm just putting you guys back in place by pointing out what Liberty is: an irrelevant athletics school.

Not necessarily. A. When you have a QB like Cam Newton transfer to your school, you put everything on hold and make room for him as your starter. They won a championship because of that. However, there are also repercussions that effect the future of your football team. They're still in a rebuilding mode and this team is very young. You aren't going to fire a coach after one bad season. How is this years LSU team a valid comparison? They have 6 to 7 future NFL starters on their defense. Miles has been there for years building that team. If you do want to compare LSU to Auburn though, LSU had two down years after winning a title before going 11-2 and winning the Cotton bowl. My only point is that you can't give Chizik all the blame. Let some of these recruiting classes come in before you start pointing fingers at Chizik.

Can't give him all the blame? He has had 4 recruiting classes. FOUR. How much time does he need? He alone owns this team. FWIW, the recruiting classes were highly touted. Get real… wait a minute. Now that I think about it, you must be right. Better keep him. ROLL TIDE ROLL! :football

First off, Chizik is 31-15 at Auburn with a National Title. As great as Cam was for Auburn, he disrupted what Chizik was building. Since, Cam left Chizik has had to undergo an incredibly tough job in rebuilding Auburn. If you aren't successful in the NFL after 4 years, sure fire your coach. However, this is college football, Chizik does have a National Title, and this is a very young team. Combine that with being in the SEC and I would say Chizik isn't to blame. My point being that one bad season isn't enough to fire Chizik, he needs at least one more year. Let these starters become seniors and then judge Chizik.

Here is what doesn't compute. He has been there 4 years. So his first recruiting class are now upper classmen.
If Cam Newton was so disruptive to the Master Plan then why bring him in?
The time Cam Newton was there should have only helped not hurt recruiting.
