To be replaced by Kevin Ollie. Would say curious timing, but Calhoun wanted Ollie to be his hand picked replacement and UConn wasn't going to do it, but now given the timing, they have no other realistic option but to make Ollie the interim HC.

It's only a 1 year contract. Calhoun's coaching tree never really panned out. There were some seasons of success here and there with a few of the guys but nothing worthy of taking the program over. Ollie is the last chance I think. Rumors I always read was that Shaka Smart turned down Illinois partly because he wanted to see what shook out at Uconn. I'm sure our Richmond insiders that are BFF with Shaka will let us know.

Ollie is a self made NBA vet so maybe that translates into good coach? Guess we'll find out.

He is what Digger Phelps wishes he was. Calhoun is leaving this program in shambles. The team is on probation and Ollie is on a1 year deal. What recruit is going to want to go there in the next 2 or 3 years? He got out while the getting is good. Of course age and broken hip helped him make the decision I'm sure

Why would he want to leave the program he basically created in shambles? I don't get why people keep questioning the motives, the guy can't stay healthy, and the conference realignment is crushing the program more than anything else.

UConn has always gone through cycles of talent drain, it's nothing new, but he's just always been able to coach them to wins. The program is on probation because of academics, not because Calhoun cheated. Maybe if he had Roy Williams' staff it would be a different story.

1 year tournament ban? The same year that he's not coaching there? However, I'm certain his opinion of how desirable of a job it is has changed with the Big East bascially falling apart.

Will UConn eventually recover and be nationally relevant again, or will they be like UMass post-Calipari and return to also-ran status. They were a virtual nobody before Calhoun like UMass was before Calipari. The Big East won't be much better than the old Conference USA with a departed West Virginia and once Pitt, Syracuse, and Notre Dame leave. And I know Louisville has talked of leaving too. Now hiring a coach as a one-year holdover that will without a doubt cripple recruiting more on top of a crappy Big East.

Yeah. At the rate he's going Calipari will lap Calhoun in NCAA infractions and graduation rates!

:nod UConn has won 3 championships in the past 13 years. Umass went to the Final Four ONCE. Regardless of what happened Pre-Calhoun, UConn should be just fine.
