GT vs VT

Is anyone watching this game? It's been about as exciting as watching grass grow in December. 7-7 in the 3rd and the three & outs are in great supply tonight. Logan Thomas hasn't looked good, GT's offense is pretty useless and neither defense is really forcing turnovers.

GT defense looks pretty good
Logan looks very good. He can't help it that his receivers can't catch
The game isn't that exciting though

Logan Thomas has a lot of rust it seems like, they can't make anything happen on offense, too bad for GT that they can't capitalize on VT's weak offense tonight

Logan is 12/26 and a grand total of 90 yards. His passes look gorgeous but he keeps overthrowing receivers. Would love to see him piece together a drive similar to the Miami one from last year. I don't think the play calling has helped him either.

12/26 with about 5 easy drops. Some of his over throws are bad routes or just getting rid of it.

He seems flustered at this point. Saw him throw a ten yard pass when he had a guy 5 yards out, wide open and it would have been a first down. You have to manage your risk. He's still at sub 50% and hasn't made a play by himself yet. This is why I hate the comparisons between him and Cam Newton. I love VT and I love Logan but seriously, Cam had similar help with his receivers and won a championship...Logan hasn't completed 50% against GT. He just needs to take this game over.

He needs to do that again.

There it is. That was a heck of a throw. Must have been on FF reading this!

Cool thing about being FBS soon is that we have more incentives for local stars like Demetri Knowles and Logan Thomas. Seeing those two connect, just spells LU in ten years.

Frank Beamer should be allowed to "retire". "Beamer Ball" is another name for poor football.

I thought it was a very fun game to watch. The chess match going on between two great coaching staffs was a thing of beauty. Was really rooting for GT. I abhor VT with every fiber of my being.

I like that GT's offense seems to result in so few negative plays. But they cannot play from behind.

Seriously? The guy is a great recruiter, he's fantastic at finding talent and he's even better at developing players. The whole reason that VT is even competitive is because of Frank Beamer. He basically founded VT football. Additionally, they found a way to win tonight in a close game that usually ends in a loss. I'll agree that eventually, his time will come and he'll need to step down. However, he is a huge asset to VT football right now.

Agreed. This game is usually a loss for VT and with every game being a cakewalk until they play @UNC, they have a real shot to get off to a great start. I think they're going to build a ton of momentum over the next several weeks and if they go undefeated, they could honestly be looking at a title game appearance. Think about it, they would beat Clemson (most likely will be ranked when they play) and beat FSU (most likely will be ranked, if not a top ten team), then get a rematch and win...that's a three big wins and maybe four if UVA amounts to anything. It's a lot of ifs but the fact that they were able to come from behind and finish this game is huge. As long as they don't have the traditional, what the heck game, they're going to be on the championship radar late in the season.

You're right bradyfan, he has done all of those things, but if you give him the credit for all of those good things then you have to give him the credit for never winning the big one, right???

Tech will never be better then they are right now with Frank Beamer, if Tech fans are ok with that then so be it. I personally, would be ready to move on, but thats just me.

I think its obvious that they have peaked (for some time now) with Beamer at the helm. They've had great success since joining the ACC, but are we really going to brag about dominating the recent ACC, a conference that across the board has been weak in football for the past decade? I never knew they had this but saw during the telecast ESPN showing an empty space in their hall of fame for a national title. That empty case symbolizes the Beamer era, close but no cigar.

If Beamer wants to win the big one, he needs to get rid of Brian Stinespring.

That said, I was happy to see VT win a close one instead of pulling the usual Hokie Chokie.

Not only these if's, but they probably need at least the Big 12 or SEC to beat up on itself and ruin chances for the winners of each of those leagues to vie for the National Championship. The way it looks to me now, winners of the Oklahoma/WVU and Bama/LSU matchups should meet for the NC, provided those winners have no other falters.

The typical ACC schedule provides its best program with about as many top-notch victories to claim as the Pac 12, and one or two less than the Big 10. Not trying to be debbie downer, but if undefeated or possibly even one-loss teams emerge from those leagues, they could very well have more going for them than an undefeated VT (and especially a one-loss VT).

Changing subject: I noticed Frank Beamer's son beside him a lot on the sideline last night. I haven't been paying attention, but since someone mentioned Beamer should retire: is he hoping to set his son up to succeed him?

From Wikipedia:
Current Coaching Staff

Name Position
Frank Beamer Head Coach
Shane Beamer Associate Head Coach/Running Backs Coach
Bryan Stinespring Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends Coach
Bud Foster Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebackers Coach
Jim Cavanaugh Recruiting Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach
Curt Newsome Offensive Line Coach
Kevin Sherman Wide Receivers Coach
Mike O'Cain Quarterbacks Coach
Torrian Gray Defensive Backfield Coach
Charley Wiles Defensive Line Coach
I would say he is setting him up to take over. Probably less reason for Bud Foster to stick around next time he's offered another gig.

He should retire just for letting the clock run down in the final 2 minutes. The clock was symbolic that his time is up. But only if VT fans want a GOOD team. If they want an OK team, Beamer's their man. :football
