Pretty well written and scathing article outlining how UCLA basketball has become an embarrassment these days. The parts on Reeves Nelson are particularly shocking, this dude should be in prison for all that he did to his own teammates.

Both this Nelson and Howland sounds like winners. Not!

Howland is a coward....plain and simple.

Nelson had no business ever being at UCLA.

Surprise surprise, a WVU fan coming out of the woodwork to badmouth Howland.

In this day of short-sited rule creation, kicking a player off the team hurts your APR.

Reeves Nelson is the biggest d-bag i've ever covered. told me to pay him $100 to conduct an interview. This is when he was a junior in HS.

The guy who wrote the article said the reason he started writing the article was to find out why UCLA has been so bad lately... He also said it was almost march madness and he needed a story.

I dont think its fair to UCLA when there are a large ammount of schools operating the same way.

Nelson seems like Dweeb.

UCLA deserves/earned the criticism

1) Ben Howland, very unjustified in hindsight obviously, had a reputation as a disciplinarian when he was hired. Even without this article, it was pretty clear his reputation was not the least bit deserved.

2) Howland compromised the integrity of the program with the way he handled Reeves, even before this article came out.

3) The on-court and off-court issues were fairly wide known in Pac 10 country from what I have been reading, it was only a matter of time before all this crap was uncovered nationally.

4) When you bring in top notch players who transfer out and become top contributors for some pretty good college teams, you're asking for criticism.

5) It's UCLA, a blue blood program, when you run the program in to the ground, you deserve the criticism. Just like Matt Doherty at UNC, Billy Gillespie and Eddie Sutton at Kentucky, Kelvin Sampson at Indiana, etc.

That can be taken more than one way PH. Are you referring to the fact that Pitt did not decline after Howland left, but continued to be very good under Jamie Dixon (til this year anyway)?
