C-USA - maybe not such an option anymore

Looking at some c-usa boards today it seems like the teams that are to take UH and Southern M are already voted on, they included such teams as La Tech, Ark St, FAU, FIU and MTSU.
Sunbelt is looking to add App St.

Speculations?

Any word on that rumor that we have already been offered by a conference?

I know people hate talk speculation on flamefans but since football has been down as of late I figured this might spark something to talk about again.

Go FLAMES! :football

CUSA would be a heckofa jump from the BSOUTH.

Not too realistic though I don't think we'd have turned it down.

I wouldnt be surprised if LU goes as App goes, if you follow.

Esp since I remember one of the spies reported on a flight to Boone or that area not long ago

I'd prefer MAC to Sunbelt but thats only b/c the South may as well be on another continent for people up here.

SBC would prob'ly be a good fit for an initial move up

If LU moves up as a package deal, that would not be such a terrible idea.

Memphis is headed to the Big East for the 2013 season per ESPN, maybe there is a chance after all.

Guys, there is a ton of maneuvering left to occur but I would most certainly NOT rule out Conference USA at this point. They are still trying to determine what path they want to take and we are absolutely among their options they are considering right now.

I'm optimistic that we may land larger than SBC... It's obvious that we are pressing a national appeal and an evangelical appeal... I think some bigger boys may see the payoff to adding a school like ours that isn't close to reaching it's potential as opposed to adding some other regional schools that are clearly established with their potential reach... I think we actually may have a legit shot at a Conference USA or Big East. We'll see.

The Big East off the table for many reasons. But there are plenty of other options and your rationale is in part the basis.

ESPN is reporting a meeting about a possible merger between C-USA and the Mountain West conference.... I think that would put us out of the C-USA discussion. Personally hoping, not realistically tho, to join the Big East or ACC.

I still think we should be looking at either going to the Sun Belt or pairing up with schools like App. St. and push the FBS to allow a new conference. I'm not fond of going the MAC route for sports other than football, and the other jumps would be so big that we'd likely be historically bad in most sports for several years.

As someone who lives about 45 minutes away from El Paso, I hope we do join the C-USA. I think we would fit in nicely and it wouldn't be that huge of a jump as far as football is concerned.

This conference re-allignment is getting rediculous. BTW Mac is already at 16 teams and im not sure if they will add anymore...Big East is finished raiding. ACC is finished as well. Looks like sunbelt, CUSA, or start a new conference with other I-AA schools.

Welcome to the board! While I agree with the premise of your initial post, you are leaving out another option and I am not sure if the MAC is comfortable sitting at 16.

Sorry it took so long. And I may need to close it down again. The spambots are working me over right now. But I want to make sure we get some fresh blood in here.

True. Mac could benefit from a program such as ours. MAC average attendance for a game was 15,600 in 2010. Our attendance easily beats that and with the continued growth and move to FBS we can only see that attendance grow. Plus we have a rather large video audience across the nation with the Online Program. They have everything to gain by adding us and possibly an App. St.

Any chance Scorcho considers changing the backbone for the board to something that is better at preventing these things to a greater degree Sly?

I am 45 minutes into New Mexico there is nothing 45 minutes further into Texas besides dirt. I moved out to Las Cruces two years ago and have had the chance to watch both New Mexico State and UTEP attempt to play football. I don't want to be overly optimistic, but I think we could play or beat both. I know the we probably wouldn't join the WAC but I think C-USA would be a great fit.
