Andre Agassi played his final match today, losing in four sets to Benjamin (no relation to Boris) Becker at the US Open on Arthur Ashe Court in New York City.

:( He is getting sooo old, after all. I believe the reporter used an aching back analogy.

We cover quite a bit of tennis down here in Houston with several pro tourneys each year. And for the record, Andre is one of the classiest guys you'd ever want to be around. After his early days of self-infatuation, he grew up into one of the sports world's true gentlemen.

andre had a great career. he just simply ran out of gas. after two five set victories, it was just a matter of time. now if only roddick or blake can pickup the torch now and bring glory back to american tennis.

I've seen more A-Rod and Blake than I care to ever see with them playing every tourney here (and Roddick being an Austin guy I've covered him since he was a sophomore in high school). I just don't see them ever dominating. Federer is in a whole different stratosphere. I'm watching to see which American will emerge from the juniors to make a run at the top.
