BJU News Release wrote:BJU to Participate in Intercollegiate Athletics
GREENVILLE, S.C., (Dec. 5, 2011) . . . Bob Jones University announced today that it will establish an intercollegiate athletics program. The University has been in talks with the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and will begin the process of applying to join that association immediately with the goal of participating in a limited schedule in 2012/13 and a full schedule of competition in the 2013/14 academic year.
Initially BJU will compete in two sports—men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s basketball. In time, BJU may consider competing in additional sports.
“There are a number of very positive reasons for introducing intercollegiate athletics into the educational program and student life of BJU at this time,” says Dr. Stephen Jones, president of BJU. We anticipate that intercollegiate athletics will strengthen school spirit among both students and alumni and provide new occasions for alumni and the community to come to campus.

Wow, the hits keep coming! All of the criticisms that the BJU crowd has thrown at LU over the years about being Liberal University and being "of the world" are being implemented one by one in Greenville.
Interracial relationships? Check
Secular Accreditation? Check
Intercollegiate Athletics? Check
Bwahahaha

Agree with you Sly. It maybe a shock to them that they are now coming into the 21st century.
I remember my freshman year at BJU 1971 we could not have a football on campus, even just to play catch. They were afraid of injuries, yet you could play soccer on campus.

Its funny considering how much they looked down on us in the past, but I am thankful they have leadership that finally is realizing how ridiculous those stances were.

This. Thankfully Liberty adapted, and adapted well. We're the perfect mix, IMHO.

Wondering what the dress code will be for the ladies' uniforms.

I wonder if the male students can watch the women play their bb games. When I was there, 1971, men could not watch the women's intramural BB games. True story.
I guess they did not want us lusting after the young ladies.

My concern is if these basketball players will be in bed and lights out at midnight.
That's not a joke. They have to be in bed by 12am.

That was true at Liberty not too long ago.

not that long ago? When did Liberty have a "lights out" rule? Just curious.

I don't know exactly when they did away with it, but they certainly had it when I was on campus from 74-79. I wouldn't classify that as "not that long ago" however.

I knew they use to have a light's out time but I thought that ended over 20 years ago which is why I was confused by the "not so long ago" statement

I'd send out a feeler for an athletics job down there, I can't imagine there athletic teams are going to be worth watching within the next decade though. But that is a mighty nice looking logo. Their men's hoops games against Johnson & Wales will be absolutely unbearable. J&W gets handled by 30-40ish or more points by average D3 teams...

Somehow I don't think having LU on your CV would be a positive in Greenville. They would prefer someone with a Hyles-Anderson or Crown background.

So BJU is going to play kawlage sports. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. They will be horrible at that too. They have a shrinking enrollment and have laid off some of their "professors". Does this mean the end of the Turkey Bowl? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
