From what I've read, the allegations only have to do with one of Paterno's assistants. I don't know all the facts on the story but why is JoePa practically being forced to retire? Can someone clear this up?

Ineptitude, failure to live up to moral obligations, being partially responsible for the cover up, etc. Penn State doesn't need to keep anyone around that is connected to this. The ramifications of keeping them around would be unprecedented.

That makes more sense. I was under the impression that JoePa was being pushed out soley because one of his staff members committed the action. However, if he's part of the cover up, that makes alot more sense. JoePa's exit is long overdue anyways.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 'asked' JoPa to bow out gracefully at the end of the season. I don't think they will try to embarrass him by firing him, let alone before the season is over.

Since it's already November, I can see them just waiting a few more weeks and then letting him resign/retire.

He is fired and should be.....sad legacy for a great football coach who will live his last days out under the shadow of knowing a crime had been committed and did not report it directly to the police like any moral person would do. IMO, he should have gone to the police with the matter and then sent his defensive linemen in to teach the coach a lesson.
