Just read a quarter page ad about this in the local paper. The team is "Christian Owned and Operated" and will play in the Lynchburg Armory. Website:

According to this link, it does have a couple LU connections:

I can't see Alexis moonlighting. I wonder who is coaching them and if they are splitting Armory time with VUL? And if they could BEAT VUL?

The Legends should have zero problem beating VUL. Well as long as they down't get gunned down by some thug that athletic department brought in this year...

Size doesn't mean anything if you can't play.

The Legends have at least three former D1 ballers, including the fourth most prolific scorer in Virginia HS history in Kenny Hunt.

Where do you even find info on their basketball team? I can't find a darn thing on their joke of a website.

If the VUL hoops squad is anything like their football team, it would be a beat down by the Legends. I do hear they have Buddy Mason as their head coach, I am sure he is still engaging in his hoops overseas "slave trading" [not my words, I am only quoting what other coaches have called him] that he has grown a reputation for so he probably has a bunch of Europeans with a questionable academic resume.

Got the roster from someone. They ahve two seven footers. After that, they have a D3 sized roster, and not even a big D3 at that. So it's a overstatement to say that team is huge, they are huge at two players and thats it.

The seven footer that transferred from Bluefield managed a whopping 5.38 points for a bad NAIA team and the one from Virginia Intermont (another awful NAIA team) only played in 12 games and scored 18 points. If those two guys are playing, they either improved by light years or VUL isn't going to be good.

Why you should know him
The 28-year-old Liberty University graduate just brought semi-pro basketball to the Hill City. The Lynchburg Legends, a team with the American Basketball Association (ABA), opened their inaugural season last weekend at the City Armory.

Watched live video of VUL vs. Emory & Henry. E&H was quite possibly the worst NCAA team in the state of VA last year and E&H hung with VUL the entire game before losing by three. E&H has no size playing and beat VUL by eight on the boards.

No way on Earth they would beat the current Legends squad. You are dreaming and drinking the Buddy Mason kool-aid if you think they could. You should check out the resume of Buddy Mason euro players in college. Sure there have been some good ones like Deividas Dulkys, but for every Dulkys, there are a ton more guys who amount to average role players at best.

December 22, 2011 : Sarah Wittcop/ Liberty University News Service

Continuing in its commitment to athletic excellence and community involvement, Liberty University announced plans this week to be the title sponsor of the Lynchburg Legends, a local semi-professional basketball team for 2012.

“God has blessed the University and we want to give back to the community,” said Lee Beaumont, director of Auxiliary Services. “We feel the Legends are providing a valuable community service and activity and the school is proud to sponsor this organization.”

A member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), the Legends began their inaugural year in November and is currently ranked No. 24 according to ABA power rankings.

if they do well enough it would help warrant the need for a civic center for something other than liberty
