GRAND RAPIDS -- The relaunching of the Cornerstone University baseball program is complete: It is fully funded through a $1.5 million gift from the DeWitt family of Holland, an appropriate site has been chosen for construction of a state-of-the-art ballpark and the coaching staff has been hired.

All that is left is to put some shovels in the dirt to make it official.

Cornerstone officials broke ground this morning on a new park to be planted in the middle of campus that features 400-500 permanent seats, ground berm seating for an additional 1,000 spectators and lights for a school-sponsored team athletic director Dave Grube insists everyone is proud to call its own again.

Yep, back in the day when it was a GARBC school. There's not much left hearkening back to those days other than the real estate now.

And memories of many a spirited contest on the court, meeting Bobby Jones, having Bobby Jones say unkind things and having Ed Hightower call a foul on me! ( ok maybe more then one.)
