Anyone else excited for this tournament? USA beating Canada 1 to 0 at halftime. Been a good game, but too many silly passes.

I'm hoping to see the US up at RFK for the quarterfinal knockout run (assuming they won't have any trouble making it there).

And yes, they're playing in tampa Saturday. Id recommend going. Panama always gives the US a great game.

Another exciting finish for Costa Rica. El Salvador has the lead heading into the final 2 minutes. The El Salvador player (in my opinion attempts to stall the game) by pretending to have a head injury. Because of this, the game is extended and Costa Rica scores the game tying goal.

I can't wait for the rematch between Costa Rica vs. Mexico. They had an epic battle during World Cup Qualification last year where Mexico scored with 3 minutes remaining and Costa Rica tied it up a minute into extra time. The Mexican crowd were throwing beer all over the place.

Mexico and Cuba tonight, I'm hoping for a great game, but I bet it'll be a blowout.

And for those of you who didn't watch, the USA beat Canada 2-0 on Tuesday. A USA win vs. Panama in Tampa on Saturday will advance them to the knockout stage.

If Mexico doesn't win by at least 4 goals it'll be an embarrassment to the Mexican team and it's fans lol

It's 25 minutes in and they're already getting mad haha. It's still 0-0. Which it shouldn't be Mexico isn't playing well at all.

Having said that, back in 07 at Houston Bush Intl I ran into the Cuban football team on my flight to South America. They were nice people. They were on their way back to Havana (via Mexico City).

According to Univision, I guess 5 of Mexico's players tested positive for PED's. Still waiting to see who those are.

It's up on EPSN

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Five players on Mexico's soccer team, including goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and defender Francisco Rodriguez, have tested positive for a banned substance and are out of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Decio de Maria, the secretary general of the Mexican soccer federation, said Ochoa and Rodriguez -- two starters for Mexico in last year's World Cup -- tested positive for clenbuterol. Also testing positive were three role players: defender Edgar Duenas and midfielders Christian Bermudez and Antonio Naelson "Sinha."
They claim the postive test was from some contaminated meat they all ate

Haha I love how its always the contaminated beef line.

Anyways Mexico won easily 5 to 0. Cuba was holding the line for awhile but then the pure mismatches began to show.

Looks like the 5 could be in even bigger trouble... for lying.

(end personal comment)

Mexico: Beef not tainted by drug

Associated Press
MEXICO CITY -- The Mexican government says its beef doesn't contain clenbuterol, hurting the defense of five soccer players suspended after testing positive for the banned substance.

A Mexican soccer official has said he believes the positive tests came eating contaminated beef, but the health department said Friday that cases of contaminated beef in Mexico are fewer than one in a million.

The announcement comes a day after the Mexican soccer federation removed goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, defenders Francisco Rodriguez and Edgar Duenas, and midfielders Christian Bermudez and Antonio Naelson from the Gold Cup team. Ochoa, the most high-profile player, denied any wrongdoing.

Agreed. Mexico has so much potential, especially as their youth teams continue to develop.

Juan Agudelo should become the next Charlie Davies.

For those of you who are interested, USA plays Panama today at 8PM ET on Fox Soccer Channel.

The USA got upset by Panama 2 to 1 last night.

USA didn't play well and deserved to lose, but the ref's performance last night was beyond putrid.

U.S defeats Panama 1-0, and Mexico defeats Honduras in Extra Time.

U.S vs. Mexico final, Saturday at 9ET of Fox Soccer Channel.

Kinda funny how poorly we've played and yet we still get to the finals

I am extremely uneasy about this game. Yes, Mexico has played sub-par these past few games, BUT with the combination of the US playing poorly in general and Mexico being very talented I see us losing this game.

True, but it's not like we can change where we are lol

As awesome as that would be I'm not sure it would help us this year. Since FIFA is still ruling about Regions inviting countries outside their domain to participate in their tournaments, Mexico has to bring it's U-23 team (with only 5 over age players allowed). That would most likely mean a butt-whooping for the US rather than good experience lol Although in the long run I do agree. The more we play OUT of the CONCACAF, the better it'll be for US Soccer

You deserve the Obvious Cat BYD :D

I do agree that we should keep playing more CONMEBOL friendly's to help us prepare better.

Mexico has been pretty good this year, a win to me would be to simply avoid the 5-0 killing we got in 09.

The U-17 World Cup is going on as well, and U.S won 3-0 over Czech Republic. I think an upcoming game is on Galavision (for those of you who can understand a little Spanish) :D

The 5-0 killing we got was because we played our B team, the A team was prepping for the Confederations Cup. We won the Gold Cup the last time we tried.

Our Lineup in that 5-0 match:

Lineups:
USA:
1-Troy Perkins
16-Jay Heaps
4-Chad Marshall
3-Clarence Goodson
2-Heath Pearce
10-Stuart Holden
8-Logan Pause
5-Kyle Beckerman
7-Robbie Rogers
11-Brian Ching
22-Davy Arnaud

The two guys there who are A team worthy now (Holden and Goodson) were both quite young at that time, and were better served getting experience. The rest of these guys are scrubs and were just thrown together so we didn't have to forfeit (a bit of exaggeration).

All good.

This Mexico side is really strong tho.

I think we can win, but I'd put the odds at 60%/40% in favor of Mexico.
