There are reportedly at least a handful of men among the 70 applicants for the UMaine position. That group includes Hermon native and former Liberty University men’s head coach Randy Dunton, Colby College graduate and California Lutheran women’s head coach Roy Dow and Gardner-Webb women’s head coach Rick Reeves.
Rick reeves leaving GWU?

I found it interesting that both Reeves AND Randy were 'in the running'. There is some type of karma/mystic aura in that LOL

RD must be interested in the cheer-leading coaching job. Oh snap.

Trying to imagine what their AD is thinking: should I hire a
realtor or a
women's coach?
I hope that RD at least converted the VHS tape of his LU victory over UVa in U-Hall to DVD.

This is for the Maine
women's coaching job. I thought it odd too until I read the linked article.

Why would Rick Reeves want to leave what appears to be a successful coaching gig at GW to go to Maine??? Does U. Maine pay that much more? I can't imagine that Orono, Maine is any more of an enjoyable place to live than Boiling Springs, NC.

His best players are seniors. Maine is a better job than GW. They averaged 4000 people a game not too long ago before this last coach. There's nothing else to do up there so people come to games. They've also got pretty good financial support.

for a while the women's program up there was pretty solid...their now former coach is who put UMaine basketball on the map. For the longest time their women's team was outdrawing the men's team. Of course nothing will ever overshadow hockey on that campus...but Jon is right this would be a much better job then GW

This.
While the UMaine job does appear to be a solid one. Having been too Orono a few times I got to say that it's not the most enjoyble place to be haha

I do know this, if RD coached cheerleading, they would compete. Maybe some of you guys would like to take your skirts out the closet & try out for his team.
Oh, by the way, his AAU team won the state the other day, beating a great bunch coached
by someone named Boo Williams. That one's probably already on dvd.

I'm glad he's found his coaching niche - girls AAU ball.

He's coaching where given the opportunity, and succeeding there.
If he gets another chance, I say he'll do very well.
It's easy for you guys to say he can't coach while he has no high visibility platform to prove you wrong. All he can do is succeed where he is, and right now he is developing young players.
Say whatever you want (and I know you will, & I'm glad that In America, we still have that right)
but if his heart weren't in coaching, he wouldn't be pushing himself as he does, trying to support his family while still pursuing his passion. Most people I know need a weekly paycheck, & RD is not the exception. He's doing what he needs to do to help provide for his family, & driving a lot of miles & putting in a lot of energy to remain in coaching.
I don't know why there isn't some level of respect for that. And he was a true Liberty & Jerry Falwell man.

Are we still talking about this? I mean it's been 5 years and 2 coaches. I'm glad he's having success with girls AAU ball. Really I am. If he had that kind of success at LU he'd still be here.

Thanks.
There is really no good reason for any of us to be overly sarcastic or unkind to one another (of course, not to rule out an occasional "zinger" from time to time). Obviously I love RD, and figure that some of the things said against him demand a response. I guess I see myself as the Terry O'Reilly of the Boston Bruins of yesteryear: not that big, but ready to fight the other team's bully night in and night out. As another player said (Tiger Williams of the L.A. Kings) "It's not how many fights you win, but how many you show up for.")
In my mind, somebody needs to show up for a decent man that loved JF & LU.

If the AAU coaching doesn't work out, maybe this could be RD's plan B.

As long as we're talking about Dunton sightings looks like he's the listing agent on that piece of property on Wards where East Coast gas went out of business. I bet that's worth a ton of money.

I posted another link in the womens hoops forum.....looks like Reeves is one of two finalists.
Maine is a state school, and no doubt has better financial resources than G-W for womens hoops, but why would he leave what he has built here? Do we hire his daughter as HC if he leaves?

He leaves because his top players were seniors and instead of rebuilding there in the middle of nowhere with no fans, why not go rebuild while making more money, having more resources, and getting more fan support?

I think that would be great.
