Well, with only one more move she'd be set for life and NEVER have to move

As for Marshall, I actually liked him for the OK job

VCU's AD says they are willing to offer Shaka as much as $2 mil per to keep him.

that really shocks me manson...I dont think any one was offered anything close to that as of late. I guess the expansion of the Siegel Center will be on hold if they pony up that much money :|

Sounds like the AD at VCU got Brinks on speed dial once VCU made the Final Four (if not sooner)

Teel said VCU told him Smart's compensation now is around $500K. VCU intends to put together an increased compensation package for Smart after this weekend and very much wants to keep him but realizes it cannot pay $2 million for a coach.
State can swing the $2mil price tag.

The boys in Bristol did a great deal to promote the UConn brand and Calhoun got the most out of it. That will be a highly coveted gig. Thanks to Calhoun's job there (whatever you make thing of his reputation), UConn has overcome Syracuse as the marquee program in New England.

On an unrelated note, Haith in Mizzou is interesting on a number of levels. A man leaves Miami of all places and the supposedly invincible Big East to head to the middle of the Ozarks in the Big XII minus 2.

Brain fart. But it even adds more credence to my point.

Back to Smart...
N.C. State continued its coaching search over the weekend with a detailed presentation to Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart, multiple sources in the college basketball community said Monday.

According to sources, the Wolfpack’s presentation to Smart included a six-year commitment worth approximately $2 million per year. Among ACC basketball coaches, only Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, UNC’s Roy Williams and Maryland’s Gary Williams make more than that amount in base compensation.

Ha....and with that, he JUST shot them down. Man, State is just in the crapper right now.
HOUSTON -- Shaka Smart of VCU will stay at VCU and not cash in on his instant superstardom, a source in Richmond told me a minute ago.

The web is buzzing about Ole Purple Face being top of NCSU's list now.

I wonder if Miami makes a run at Shaka as well.

Marshall will take it and then a day later hold a press conference crying and go back to WSU.

But, he did listen to their offer. He didn't just say no. I never knew if he would go or not, but I knew State could swing that kind of price tag in front of him.

Also, for what it's worth, I've heard that part of the issue is Debbie Yow's reputation...concerns a lot of coaches.....even with that kind of money being offered.

Yeah he would be stupid to NOT listen. I also heard that about Yow.

The Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer this afternoon quoted Teague as saying North Carolina State had offered Smart the Wolfpack’s vacant head coaching position.

"Yes, they talked to him and made an offer,” Teague told the North Carolina paper. "We countered and he is staying."
Deal is $1.2 mil for >5 years.

I'll bet the buyout on that lower valued deal is reasonable so he is able to bolt to a better opportunity in the near future.

Looks like people would learn a lesson from past history. How did the Capel thing work out? If a college is willing to pay $2mm for a basketball coach at a state university - there's definitely something wrong with the system. Private - fine. It's there money, but a state university is my money and it's great that VCU won this year, but no coach is worth 1.2mm to coach that team. Let's see how he does when all those players who transferred in leave.
