Virginia Commonwealth University is stepping into the debate over what to do with City Stadium. VCU's athletic director even met with the mayor Dwight Jones this week.

Norwood Teague said VCU wants the property. He also said starting a football program is a possibility and you can connect the dots that owning City Stadium is the next logical step in a long process.

Actually that intent has been expressed before by VCU. They could have access without buying it but it is in desperate needs of repairs. That's why the Spiders left it behind.

I'd be surprised since VCU's AD has been adament about not wanting or needing a football program for years.

Folks in Richmond have had to reassess some of their positions based on what they have seen at one of their peer institutions just east of them along the coast. For many administrators, they need to see hard metrics on the impact of athletics on an institution before they will even give it consideration.

Yeah that's why I was surprised it was even mentioned on the news especially like it was breaking news.

As someone who used to live in that media world, I admit that often times what is general knowledge among a portion of our viewing audience is somewhat revelatory to the guys sitting in the sports office at the local station. Thats one of the reasons I have been a message board junkie for close to two decades. That's one of the ways you can keep a finger on the pulse of the community. Unfortunately not everyone is willing to put the effort into research.
