What a idiot. The coach is lucky he didn't get his teeth knocked down his throat by the kid. That is uncalled for. He needs to be fired, because you just can't justify that type of behavior.

Yeah, it seems like the school is defending him or something. It doesn't make sense.

I mean, I'm not condoning it but I'm sure Bear Bryant did worse.

Yes the Bear did, however, it is 2011 not 1965. Times change along with methods. The guy needs to be gone right now. Anybody have any updates on his status?

1. He did not punch the player
2. He did not kick the player
3. It was an intense drill that was a part of the practice (it's part of the game folks - intensity)
I guarantee you the coach isn't thinking, "hmm, let me lay into my player. That will really send a message!!". No. Plus come on, he didn't even barely touch the kid. Clearly the player is on scholarship for soccer as well.
The only thing the coach did that was wrong was cuss the kid out and tell him to get out of the gym.

While I see your point, what the coach did was nothing short of idiotic. I had many intense practices growing up, but in none of them did my coach do something like what the HFU coach did. While it doesn't warrant his firing/arrest, he clearly could have done something just as effective without laying into a player.

Does that mean he really did touch the kid...kind of like a double negative?
The kid was bleeding. So, I agree with your assessment...he didn't even barely touch the kid.

Sorry... He barely touched the kid. There. Better?
For all we know the kid could have caught an elbow while he was trying to box out his teammate in one of the earlier rebounding drills just before that. Or he could have chronic nose bleeds.. or allergies. I find it hard to believe his bleeding was caused by the coach.

I didn't see the video. I heard on the radio the kid was punched which by the way it sounds wasn't the case. Well, if what your saying is true I don't see what the fuss is about. Sounds like a non story that was probably blown up by false reporting.

I have to disagree with the assertion that he barely touched the kid. While it wasn't a punch, the coach was clearly out of control and acting in anger. I guess as a dad my views on what I'd expect out of a coach have changed but that appears to be completely unacceptable behavior. And he showed no sign of remorse.
Anybody else find the name of the school ironic under these circumstances?

Sly, you're are right about the coach not showing any remorse. He should have definitely done that, but at the same time, it is pretty clear that player overreacted. The coach was intense about an intense drill. That does not justify physical or verbal harm whatsoever. I just think it's pretty clear the player pulled a Tom Cruise and played the part very well.
