Report: Holgorsen to be next WVU coach

Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will become the next head coach at West Virginia University in 2012, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday.

Holgorsen will reportedly head to Morgantown, W.V., to become the school's offensive coordinator in 2011, while head coach Bill Stewart will remain at the helm for one more season.

Stewart, whose current contract ends after the 2013 season, would reportedly be reassigned within the athletic department after next season.

Neither of the two schools have commented on the report.

According to the report, Holgorsen will receive a six-year contract. The first will pay him $500,000 as offensive coordinator, while the next five will be at $2 million per season.

Holgorsen, 39, is considered one of the top offensive minds in college football, having overseen high-powered offenses at Texas Tech and Houston prior to his arrival in Stillwater, Okla., this season.

So is this guy any good? Many in Mountaineer-Land think that Stewart is getting the shaft.

There was a collective sigh-of-relief from every Mountaineer fan around here. Stewert was well liked as a coordinator but as a head coach, he's been underwhelming.

At least this way, he gets to be involved w/ the program.

What kind of a weirdo situation is that? What's the deal with being offensive coordinator for 1 year?

WVU has a thing about people honoring their contract.

It was a mess.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him "resign" ahead of schedule and hand the reigns over now rather than go through a lame-duck season.

That's what my parents thought he would do. But I figured bill wouldn't step aside. My thing is this when I discussed this with my grandparents over christmas. Most west virginians care more about a coach being from wvu than they do winning and losing. Of course, this isn't all, but about half of all fans. And while no one can tell how the season would have gone had he not been there, if he hadn't shown no faith in his team vs. Syracuse, they'd be in a BCS bowl.

Wondering if Doc would have been up for the head WVU job, had he had not gotten the promotion and gone to Marshall.

Actually he probably would have been shown the door this year. He bailed at the perfect time.
