He goes from being the star player on a state championship football team and a future superstar at Virginia Tech to James Madison up and comer to Jail. All completely of his own doing. Nice work Pete.

See, that's why Radford could never have a football team.

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't have touched that kid with a 10 foot pole. Obviously your not the brightest guy if you sell drugs on school grounds to an undercover officer, then get a 2nd chance and blow along with your boys too.

"I love Coach Matthews, absolutely love him," Rose said at the time. "Not like. Love. Coach Matthews, man, he sat me down and told me he would give me a second chance. You can't screw a guy over that gives you a second chance after a situation like mine. I think about that all the time."

really is a shame...while this was another dumb thing this guy did we must consider that we all make mistakes. I know plenty of people who do things that other people can't seem to understand the rationale behind it. There are ministries out there that explain to characters like the Rose kid the value of taking responsibility for your own life. I really hope he can turn things around, still young.

I honestly hate it for him, because he never learned. I forgive the drug thing, but violence is a different issue. Hopefully he will have a good counselor if it goes south for him.

A mistake would be if this was the first time...this is a pattern.

Since this is an easy moment to take a cheap shot at JMU... I will not take it. I visited a jail over the summer in Cali, and walked away with a lot being learned. One thing that was reiterated to everyone that went was that the only that separates people in jail, and us, is that we didn't get caught. We've all made dumb decisions that are potentially very harmful. And some of the things we've done are just as bad as the things that have been done by those in jail. Only difference is we get away with it. Pray for these guys.

agree with unpretty.

Can we not see that this is not only a personal decision by the kids; but a product of the environment they were raised in, and a result of people throughout their lives looking the other way when they did things wrong and would come to the rescue any time there was an issue? at this point, hopefully this guy can turn his life around.

These guys need prayer.

I greatly disagree with this statement.
So, if you walked up a punched a stranger - said I'm sorry - and then punched him again, are you really sorry?

I don't disagree w/ the notion that they need prayer, as we all do. However, I refuse to feel sorry for someone who can't play football anymore because of the decisions they make.

No you're not sorry. I would say both times would be mistakes. Just because something is repeated, doesn't make it any less of a mistake. Your statement wasn't about saying sorry. Your statement was about mistakes. Everyone makes multiple mistakes over and over and many times the same ones are repeated. I'm not excusing these guys for anything they did. I'm just saying we shouldn't be scoffing at them and poking fun at their situation, even if they did play for JMU.
