I plan on getting this book soon. Dan Wetzel is one of the best ones out there writing about college sports.

Reviews on the book would be appreciated. I have it requested from the library since I'm cheap. Hopefully it comes in after I get back from the South Pacific.

The "death" to the BCS will occur when two schools from non-BCS conferences make it to the title game.

Cheer for TCU and Boise State, ladies and gents.

What would it prove if two non-BCS teams made it?

I'm really not sold on that changing anything.

I'm growing more and more skeptical that it will ever change. The "good ole' boy network" with too many college presidents and AD's being buddies with the commisoners of bowl committees is one big reason why the bowl system remains in place. There's just too many people that don't want a playoff system to ever happen. I agree with those that said non-BCS schools reaching the title game isn't going to change anything. Even if Boise State or TCU were to get to championship game and win it, all that would likely do is make it easier for a non-BCS school to get there in the future.

A Modest Proposal...

(Keep in mind that this will never, never happen in 10 million years, but I like this idea)

Create four 16-team super conferences. Each "Super Conference" is divided into two divisions. Division winners meet at the end of the regular season to crown a conference champion. Four conference champions meet in a four-team playoff. Other schools go to bowl games, as we currently have.

"That's stupid!" you may say. And you're probably right.

But... let's get even stupider!

The remaining Division I-A teams (the "non-BCS teams" as we know them today) are also divided into four super conferences, with each conference split up by division. These guys crown conference champions as well, and then bowl-eligible schools go to bowl games.

"You haven't solved anything, and I've wasted my time reading this post," you are probably saying. And once again, you're right.

So let's really mess things up... and take a page from European Soccer. The top two teams in each division in the non-BCS conferences move up into the Super Conference the following year. The bottom two in the Super Conference get booted down. That way, the Boise State's get their due. So does TCU... and schools like Duke, Vanderbilt, and Minnesota have to earn their way into their conferences.

Whatever. Just an idea.

I would have liked it better if the 2 top teams from each conference met up in a 16 team playoff, kinda like what BYD was saying. Take the top 8 from the mega conferences, and the top 8 from the less superior mega conferences and there you go. There's your playoff.

What L4L was saying was make 4 mega conferences that would consist of the BCS type schools with 16 teams in each conference. They he mentioned that there would be 4 mega non BCS conferences with 16 teams in each conference. So take the top 8 from the BCS mega conferences, and the top 8 from the non and there's your playoff. That allows the Boise's of the world to get their shot at a national championship. All of the schools outside of the 16 team playoff get to indulge the nation in some Christmas time bowl games.
