David from Jacksonville
I haven't heard much about Rashad Jennings. How has he done in camp so far?

Vic (Beat Reporter): He’s got the best hands of any running back on the team. Hey, he may have the best hands on the whole team, period. Because Jennings is such a big back, everybody cast him as a power runner, but what I’m seeing now is that his strong suit is catching passes out of the backfield. There’s a lot more Lenny Moore in Jennings than there is Jerome Bettis. Jennings naturally likes having the ball thrown to him in space. It works for me.

They also like sixth-round pick Deji Karim from Southern Illinois, a quick back who could earn some touches and can win the kick return job. He’ll probably have to get past Rashad Jennings to be a factor on offense, and I feel like they still like Jennings plenty too.

People who influenced him.
Rashad Jennings, Jaguars running back

“I’m going to go with my brothers, Butch and Bryan Jennings. They took the time to allow things to make sense to me and they pulled out my passion. It’s something very simple.

“It wasn’t that they took me out and trained me, or took me out and showed me all these drills. It’s not like they ran my life, every single day holding my hand. It was just that, when we had a conversation, when we talked, they would simplify things and show me that I could accomplish my dreams.

“They opened doors and made me push myself even further. They made me want to do better. It sounds so simple, but I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.

“I’m the accident baby; they are 10 and 13 years older than me. They both played football too. Bryan graduated from Virginia Tech and he was with the Chargers, Patriots and Titans and Butch graduated from Liberty and he played with the Giants for a year.

“So I got a chance to watch two men that I respected do this. I had somebody that I could look to that did things the right way, that worked hard, that carried themselves in a respectable manner. They kind of set the bar in that.

“They always pushed me, [that] I could do anything I wanted to do and if I wanted it I had to work at it. They drove me to ask questions and figure it out on my own.”

The rest of the stuff I've read is either fantasy related, or how Rashad is in a battle with Deji Karim for snaps. Karim (according to VIC) has good speed, moves to break into the open field, and has some promise as a pass catcher. He can also be a KR. That is if he reaches his full potential. I'm kind of glad Rashad has someone pushing him. Not that he needs it, but having MJD, DK, and GJ on the team means that Rashad will always be prodded to get better.

THREE QUESTIONS

RB Rashad Jennings

In this offense, you're called on a lot to catch passes. How did you develop your hands and work on pass-catching?

I had two older brothers who both played in the NFL for a while. One was a tight end. He spent a lot of time with me just trying to train my eyes to catch it. That's something I always pride myself with. Just little ball drills, focusing in on what you're seeing. Slowing it down. It's like looking at a ceiling fan, if you pick that one blade and slow it down. Same thing with the ball.

What are you trying to do with your Twitter account?

I try to do a lot of stuff in the community. Last year every Tuesday, I did something in the community, and a couple sponsors got in contact with me. They said we'd like to see you do a lot of different things. We'd like to help you. Their whole basis was if I got enough traffic, I could start Tweeting people, and they would donate a scholarship fund for an athlete for a year. This is for them to go to a high school back home [in Virginia]. They [would] donate enough money for one player from poverty to be able to go to that school. If you go to that school for four years [and graduate], you get to go to Liberty University for free.

Mark from Wichita, KS: Were there any players that really jumped out at you during the two-day scrimmage with the Falcons besides Garrard?

Vic: There were a lot of players that jumped out at me in good ways: Terrance Knighton was dominant. Mike Thomas was, as I said, best in class. Zach Miller and Marcedes Lewis were every bit the equal of Tony Gonzalez and Justin Peelle. Scott Starks and Derek Cox made a lot of plays. Rashad Jennings caught everything. Kassim Osgood caught the ball better than I had seen him catch it at any time since spring practices began. Kirk Morrison and Larry Hart made impressive tackles for loss. Justin Durant and Sean Considine intercepted passes and Anthony Smith nearly intercepted a pass on a play in which he broke on the ball beautifully.

Brady from Richmond, VA
Well, what I got from game one of the preseason was we cannot move the ball or stop the ball, so it’s pretty much gonna be a long season. What do you think?

Vic: I think the Jaguars uncovered a lot of weapons. Troy Williamson and Tiquan Underwood caught the home-run balls. Zach Miller made a nice catch in traffic and I think there’s a chance he could turn out to be this team’s best weapon in the passing game. Rashad Jennings has hands like Lenny Moore and Ronnie Harmon. I think Jennings could become a big-time pass-catcher out of the backfield. How about those two return guys? They averaged 38.3 and 34.7 in kickoff returns. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed twice for no yards and Mike Sims-Walker caught one pass for two yards. Stir in what those two guys can do and I think the Jaguars really have something going for them on offense.

Mike from Southampton, NJ
Since Rashad Jennings has the best hands on the team and he has some speed, could we use him in the slot a few times a game?

Vic: Yeah, you could, but you wouldn’t want to do that if it meant a defensive back was going to cover him. You want him being covered by a linebacker, which is more likely to happen if he’s circling out of the backfield. Don’t scheme schemes. Scheme personnel.

Jacksonville played its opener without defensive starters Daryl Smith, Kampman and Alualu. All three returned Saturday. Kampman, the team's top free agent acquisition, and Alualu, the 10th overall pick, made an impact on their first play. They combined to bring down Henne just outside the goal line. Rashad Jennings blocked a punt for a safety to give Jacksonville an early lead.

http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=300821030

Rushing Car Yds Avg TD Lng
R. Jennings 3 26 8.7 0 19

Receiving Rec Yds Avg TD Lng Tgts
R. Jennings 2 6 3.0 0 7 2

Pretty good numbers. Personally I feel Rashad would be a starter (or competing for) on quite a few teams: Redskins, Patriots, Seattle, Bucs, Texans, Broncos, Seahawks. But as a Jags fan, I'm VERY happy he is in Jacksonville! :D

Dag on format I HATE YOU!

Rashad Jennings; Rushing: 3 carries for 26 yards, 8.7 average, 0 TD's. Long of 19 yards.

Rashad Jennings; Receiving: 2 receptions for 6 yards, 3.0 average, 0 TD's. 2 Targets.

More of the same

It was in the second quarter that the Dolphins grabbed the lead by scoring 21 points and erasing a 9-3 Jaguars advantage. The Jaguars took a 2-0 lead when Rashad Jennings blocked a punt out of the end zone following the Dolphins’ first possession, then regained the lead when Garrard executed a 10-play, 78-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a two-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Thomas.

Maurice Jones-Drew is an easy name to put in this slot for several reasons. He’s an excellent and productive back, for sure, but plug in backup Rashad Jennings and the Jaguars might still be able to run the ball OK. But Jones-Drew does a lot to bring the Jaguars their personality -- he’s a tough, no-excuses, no nonsense, workmanlike player. On a young team, having the singular star work that way is very important.

Well someone has to get those reps...figers crossed it's Rashad.

You don't have to cross your fingers, Rashad is the 2nd back on the depth chart. He should get some serious work tonight.

I know, I'm a Jags fan. But it's preseason, and you never know who the coaches want a closer look at for various reasons. But so far tonight Rashad has been the only back to record any stats with 3min left in the 1st.

Sounds like Jags fans are pretty upset with the O-Line play. Atleast Rashad has greatly improved in his pass catching abilities. He's putting up some numbers in the receiving column, I hope that continues through the season.

Adrian from Inglewood, CA: All of the offseason acquisitions made a difference in the season-opener: Kampman, Morrison, Osgood and our top draft pick got a sack in his first-ever game.

Vic: GM Gene had a very good day. In addition to the three players you mentioned, Terrance Knighton, Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton were dominant. Rashad Jennings, Mike Thomas and Tiquan Underwood played well. Don’t overlook Justin Smiley. David Jones provided some relief for Derek Cox. Sean Considine made some big plays. William Middleton got half a sack. All of those guys have come to the Jags in the last two years. That’s a significant haul of talent.

Rashad had 4 carries for 26 yards and 1 reception for 4 yards. 30 yards total, 6 yards per play. He had two first down runs in support of one of the Jaguars scoring drives.
