That is a pretty nice stadium.Seems like they could have done a better job of getting the seating closer to the field.

Very classy! My former pastor graduated from there. And I wish they would play us in football.

For some reason they chose to have a track in the stadium. It appears they could pull out the track and bring seating closer if they so choose in the future.

But they certainly have followed the Ivy League path of Brown by ditching their Baptist roots in pursuit of greater "enlightenment".

What's the capacity in that thing? It can't be much more than 15,000 if that.

The capacity is some where in the 8,000 to 9,000 range...cant think of the exact number right of hand. I truly like where our stadium is going and I think it will be the best stadium in the FCS right next to JMU when it is all said and done.

Wow. That is really tiny.
[beating you all to the punchline]
Thats what she... nevermind.
We've got high school stadiums around here that can pack that many in.

This is tiny and it is obvious that are trying pretty hard with facilities to be irrelevant in football with this tiny stadium.

Obviously they have no aspirations to move up in classification anytime soon.

Of course they have no aspirations to move up. This thing seats roughly 8,700 with the ability to expand to 10k. You have to realize how small of a school they are. They only have about 4,000 students, and alot of their students return to where they came from after they graduate - the northeast.
VCU owns the Richmond media market for hometown team. Add in all the UVA and VA Tech alums, and there's not alot of leftovers for Richmond.
Why would they build 15,000 when they can only get 7300 the year they won the National Championship?

This is in my backyard. I believe it is on campus too which is different from the other stadium. They used to play in Carytown which is not that far from U of Richmond but I'm sure they would rather be on campus...I'll have to hit up former LU assistant Chad Wilt for tickets this fall. I've been meaning to connect with him but it hasn't happened yet.

Oh and Sly 460 will not take you all the way into Richmond from Lynchburg...gotta make your way onto 360 past Farmville

Thanks for the clarification, Scar. I haven't had an excuse to make it further east on 460 than Appomattox in a L O N G time.

I could drive 460 East from Roanoke to St. Rt. 307 in my sleep, lol.

Not because of its campus. That place is a dump!

I don't know when's the last time you visited, but they've done a lot of revitalization/building in the past few years.

I was going to say the same thing Manson...I have lived in Philly and DC so I have been around Temple U and Howard U respectively so I have seen what Urban colleges can look like in a city and VCU's campus is not bad at all...Temple is pretty nice in Philly now too. I remember when Temple looked old and run down but all that has changed. I drove by the old stadium for the Spiders today and I noticed that there are several places you can stand on the street and see the whole game. Not sure if they park vehicles there or something to keep folks from doing that but this stadium is going to be major for their program.

There has been speculation that should VCU start up a program that they might use that old stadium after some repairs. But I think that talk is practically non-existent right now.

I was there last march. New buildings at VCU remind me of Proverbs 11:22a.

I think there is talk about it and talk with teeth. The past President of the University, who just stepped down, once said "their will never be a football team at VCU as long as I am the President of this University". Well, now he is gone and the new President and the current AD both want football. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years there. By the way, the Siegel center is a nice facility along with the new Business School.

The ODU thing really is the kicker. Those two schools are the Duke/UNC of the the CAA and they cannot stand being upstaged by the other. VCU football will happen at some point.

I think most Lynchburgers know why that is. But many of them (HMO) will never admit it.
