It's football that keeps them out of the Big Ten or ACC. The stretch up 1-95 from DC to Boston is pretty much pro sports territory. The one exception is NCAA basketball. BC doesn't have the clout to pull anything like that. UConn has 4 NCAA basketball titles. Nobody in modern times touches that other than Duke or as some people say, The University of NJ at Raleigh Durham

BC is the real trouble maker in the Big East-ACC drama. When ACC pursued VT and Miami, BC joined the Big East as a plaintiff in a lawsuit. Then as soon as they were invited by ACC, they jumped. That was the reason for Jim Calhoun ‘s statements, et al. Everyone left in the Big East had vitriol for the Eagles.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. Still pretty surprised that BC would carry so much weight. And even more surprised that the ACC would go along with it. Can't imagine why ACC would take a pass on a basketball program that delivers national championships?

Had no idea any of this stuff was going on. What happens to BC if they fall out of favor with the ACC? It's not like anybody cares about their football program.

BC is more conservative than most. Has had quite a few strong Christian profs as well. Peter Kreeft for one. Although I heard he's back in NYC teaching at King's. Beautiful campus, especially in the fall. Not that it matters. Definitely not a BC hater.

That is correct. I had CAA on my brain.

2016 - 3 Teams
2017 - 3 Teams
2018 - 2 Teams
2019 - 2 Teams
2021 - 2 Teams

We'll have to give C-USA a try. Like you've said, TX is our recruiting home away from home. Now maybe we can build on that, and even stretch it out a bit. The potential is there.

Back in the day when Boston College joined ACC, I recall reading that the #1 reason ACC extended an invitation was, the ACC wanted the Boston TV market.

And you’re not lying about not wanting to Face UCONN women. It’s like the old argument that every man thinks he could last 3 minutes in the ring with Tyson. Yeah, until you take the first punch! Everyone thinks they can compete with UCONN, SC…until you get on the court with them. Been there, done that. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t end pretty!
Is there a "Heads Coach in Waiting" situation (either official or unofficial) there with Shae Ralph, or is that just what everybody expects?
No coach in waiting arrangement officially or unofficially. But as long as Shae doesn’t completely crap the bed at Vandy, she’s generally known to be the leader in the clubhouse.

Actually, the ACC was after Miami, BC, and Syracuse. VT was begging the ACC to take them, Duke and UNC were against expansion, and then Governor Mark Warner twisted UVA's arm and VT got in instead of Syracuse. Then, Syracuse and Pitt got in anyway a few years later, and the Big East as a football conference pretty much up and died at that point, and UConn, being a bad football program then but not the pathetic program it is now, was passed on in favor of Louisville, and Notre Dame got a sweetheart deal, much to the spurned Big 10's chagrin who took Maryland just to spite the ACC, but now needs the ACC to counter the SEC.

Big East as a football conference was an experiment that was doomed to fail from its Genesis. What it gave us was 6-8 years of the best basketball conference ever created and the glory of a 16-team free for all in MSG. Those were the days…

That said, BC was a plaintiff. In the room, plotting the lawsuit while talking on the phone to the ACC. THAT was the reason for Calhoun’s - and everyone else’s - angst at BC.

That just leaves UT-Arlington to clean up the Belt. MSA #4 has to be attractive to leagues like the Mo Valley & ASUN.

Its right in the middle of SMU and TCU, and won't do much to bring eyeballs to TV screens unless they can pull a George Mason or VCU in March.

Haven’t we all generally concluded that leagues OVERestimated markets in the last round of expansion?

100% agree. But then again we are not sitting in league offices trying to convince networks that we have value.

NDSU not making the jump to FBS is a joke.

I'm not sure which is worse watching Alabama or NDSU in their respective championship games every year 😉

They are a 600 mile drive from the nearest G5 school which is about the equivalent from lynchburg to Jacksonville Florida . It makes zero sense for them to move up unless most of the MVFC moves up.

While I mostly agree with you, do you have any new info or are you just reacting to their thumping of MT State?

Unless CUSA 3.0 invites them to get a 10th for football, they have nowhere to go unless they choose the indy route. And it doesn't look right now as though our new league has any value in adding anyone else for the time being.

I believe the last statement out of CUSA said that thet were waiting until after the NCAA Convention/meetings later this month as they felt that proposed new rule changes would provoke some schools to revaluate their situations. My guess is their thinking the change will get MO State and possibly, NDSU, to reconsider CUSA by July. NDSU would really help CUSA's football creds, and we're already flying out to El Paso/Las Cruces, why not Fargo as well?
