One of our own making headlines in South Africa ...
Daily Dispatch Online wrote:Comrades: US athlete aims for win

JUST when you thought it was safe for a South African athlete to win the 2010 Comrades Marathon, after Russian Leonid Shvetsov announced his retirement from the event, another overseas runner has popped out of the woodwork and All-American star Josh Cox, reckons he is in with a good chance.
When Shvetsov, back-to-back winner in 2007 and 2008 and record holder of both the up and down runs, announced his retirement in October last year, many local athletes breathed a sigh of relief but no one counted on an outsider, with a big dream, stepping in as his replacement.
Born in Mammoth Lakes, California, Cox grew up playing soccer but later realised he was better at middle distance running and was offered a scholarship to Liberty University, Virginia where he regularly ran middle distances.

I was going to post this last week, but I never got around to it.

Unfortunately, Josh had all sorts of stomach problems about a third of the way through the race and finished "way back." Of course, most runners would be willing to hurt someone to finish as high as he did, but it was a disappointing day for Josh.

The real reason he was running the race was to bring awareness (and sponsors) to a charity he works with, http://www.comrades4thekids.org/

Here is a picture of him meeting the little girl he sponsors at the end of the race- http://twitpic.com/1sgwc7
