A guy who had his best year in '99, one year after the home run race, dies of a massive heart attack at age 37. Hummm.

Still sad to see him gone. He was a great character on the diamond. I actually got a chance to meet him a few years ago when he played for the Tides.

Jose Lima was adored by the Astro fans (even during the year he gave up a gazillion homeruns). Sports would be more enjoyable if more players took his approach to interacting with the fans. This tribute is worth reading to understand a little about Jose.

I remeber a game when he was with KC where he went out talked to the pitcher on the mound instead of letting the manager pull the pitcher. The guy on the mound proceded to blow it, but I loved his passion for the game and his desire to see his teammates succeed.

There have been a slew of discussions that he was probably in his Mid '40s instead of the 37 he had listed. We are talking about the Dominican after all.
