Now you know...
THE CINCINNATI REDS ARE IN 1ST PLACE IN THE NL CENTRAL!!!
And for those who doubted me when I said before the season started, shame on you. Pennant, here we come!
Where is your team midway thru May?

My team is the Pirates so it doesn't really matter. But, like you said it is only the middle of May - don't get all pennant-feverish just yet.

I'm not just STARTING to get pennant feverish... it started in March.

As a diehard Reds fan for decades (yeah, I haven't really cared for probably a decade now), I say if ever there was a time to live it up it is now. Because by the time September rolls around there won't be much celebrating around Fountain Square. Seize the moment.

Now Sly, let's remain optimistic. Your statement may be the most accurate one this entire board has seen in months, I'm in denial.

I'd love to say they have some talent on the way to help but if they do it's not going to be from the Hillcats haha

We Pirates fans have been doing this for years whenever they get over .500 after June 1st. It doesn't help. But when its all you got, I say go for it.

I'm an Astros fan. The team is sucking the hind tit of a dead cow.

And the future looks nothing but more challenging for the 'Stros. Ed Wade is so awful he makes locals pine for Tim Purpura. Ugh. The good news is we should have $1 tickets again soon. Last year Drayton waited until September but right now nobody is coming so he may have to move up that timetable.

Mesoraco, Serrano and Boxberger ... that's about it. All are years away from the big-league level, for sure. I know the Reds love Neftali Soto, but I just don't see it.

If I had room, that would definitely be my 4th signature quote.
(But I'd have to apply it to my Orioles).

its easy to be in first place when poopholes has 2 hr in may and is hitting leftys at a .200 clip.
its only a matter of time before the cards leave the rest of us in the nl central in the dust.

I remember hearing somewhere that the division leader on June 1 has won the division something like 70% of the time. Somehow the Cubs need to pick up 6 games in 2 days. Fortunately, I am a delusional Cubs fan, so I still have hope.

unless we can get carlos silva to pitch 1000 innings, i'm not sure we have much of a chance.

He doesn't have to pitch EVERY inning. He just has to start every game and go 6 innings. Marshall can go 2 and then Carlos "I make everyone look silly" Marmol can finish it off. Fire Lou and hire me!

1000 innings is 6 innings in all 162. the only problem with marmol is that he occasionally makes himself look silly.

Nice math work. I teach history, for the record.
All closers look bad at some point. I would take Marmol over just about everybody not named "Rivera" with a one run lead in the 9th.
Oh, and after today's game, the Cubs have a lot more to do tomorrow if they want to be in first place by June.

So the Reds are only a .5 game out of 1st right now. Looks like the Cards and Reds will be in it until the end? Anybody else buying Cincy after the break?

Simply put...no. The Cards pitching is unreal and I dont' think Cincy can keep up for the second half.

If Scott Rolen makes a faster than expected recovery and returns to his playing form, I say the Reds win it. The Reds starting pitching is very good, and I think their offense has alot more balance. The only thing if I'm the Red's that I'm worrried about, is young pitchers and field players tiring out over the next two months, particularly Leake.
