Holy cow, Ryan Howard just got PAID. Cant believe they would sign him for that much. That's A-Rod territory just for a little less and half the years. He's a strikeout king and still got paid.....good for him

On April 26, he signed a five-year contract extension. The deal will pay Howard $20 million in 2012 and 2013 and $25 million in 2014, 2015 and 2016. There is also a club option for 2017 worth $23 million with a $10 million buyout.

yeah, but this guy didn't have to pay an agent commission on his $258 million.

Thank goodness for the limited no trade clause....but im pretty upset with this i won't lie. I wanted Howard to be trade bait and Werth to get the big $$$ deal. Werth has far less mileage and doesn't go into huge slumps at the plate. The only good thing is howard did drop a bit of weight and has improved his defense quite a bit over the last year.

His strikeouts alone might be enough reason to think this amount of money is absurd however I really think you're looking at a DH in 3 years, so then what...

uh speaking of dropping weight. i was at batting practice watching the other day when they played atlanta. up close it looks like he's thinned out a TON. i don't know if that was the camera adding pounds before but its like night and day seeing him up close now. on a lighter note charlie manuel wears his pants like steve urkel.
