No pardon: ESPN suspends Tony Kornheiser
BY STEVE SCHRADER
FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

Who does Tony Kornheiser think he is, Joan Rivers? That stuff might play on the red carpet, but not at the Worldwide Leader.

ESPN suspended the "Pardon the Interruption" host for two weeks for criticizing morning "SportsCenter" host Hannah Storm's fashion sense. The suspension began Monday.

Last week on his radio show, Kornheiser said in part Storm was "in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She's got on red go-go boots and a Catholic school plaid skirt ... way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now. She's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body."

Kornheiser apologized on his radio show Tuesday and said he also called Storm. She declined to comment Tuesday.

Deadspin.com says some sources say what also raised ESPN's ire was an apparent rip Kornheiser and a co-host took at Chris Berman and his Nutrisystem commercials.

Kornheiser: "I know I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, like if I point out that people say that they lost 50 or 60 pounds have actually gained all the weight back ..."

Yeah, I couldn't believe this. Kornheiser is a style/fashion columnist...he criticized what someone was wearing...(gasp!)

espn is like the China of television.

I've thought the same things about Hannah Storm before. By the look and presentation of her attire, she just looks like someone who slept her way into that job.

It could just be that I feel this way because I love his radio show... but I don't see why ESPN suspended him. I mean, come on... anyone who listens to his show knows not to take stuff like that seriously.

I could see ESPN doing this if he had said this stuff on PTI... but he didn't. Oh well, as long as he's on the radio I'll be happy.

I guess I have two POVs on this...First, as a journalist Hannah certainly isn't someone who i would ever say 'slept' into a job...she has a long and pretty respectable history with various news and sports networks and I think he resume speaks for itself. Anyone with that resume would certainly be given the opportunity to host sportscenter.

TK's comments may have been a tad inappropriate -- but nothing out of character for him and I definitely don't think worthy of a suspension. I understand ESPN's policy, but ESPN has continued to be ridiculously hypocritical about its policies. Remember the whole Ben Rothlesburger fiasco? ESPN "doesn't report on civil cases of this nature" and yet when Michael Irvin has a civil sexual harassment case brought against him it hits sportscenter and ESPN.com. I really am sick of ESPN...its a shame too...i miss the good ole days of Rich Eisen and Kenny Mayne/Stuart Scott.... but i rarely can sit through more than a few minutes of sportscenter these days. No matter the host.

Really? Kenny Mayne/Stuart Scott was when it all started to get ridiculous for me. They're the ones that took the catch-phrase trend to the level of unwatchable. (Craig Kilborne started it, but at least he was funny). At least the crop of SC anchors they have now aren't completely full of themselves like these guys were.

Patrick before he got an ego was great along with CK was amazing. Mayne was good at one time and still could be but ESPN sold it's soul yet we still continue to watch

I think Kenny Mayne and Scott Van Pelt are great. I could do without the rest...especially mike and mike and the guy from miami who fills in for wilbon.
