MLB Offseason

The Mets made a great move today. In an effort to get younger and avoid injuries, the Mets traded [a low salary ML P] to the Angels for Gary Matthews Jr.(!!!) and $21M.
Great move, but
We add another old injury prone player to our roster. I will say I am impressed we will only be paying this guy 2M over 2 years, but he wont help us get beyond 3rd place.
Meanwhile, the Royals sign Rich Ankiel for 2.75M for a year.
Am I the only one who thinks Ankiel would have been a better pickup?

he doesnt' help you at all...he is terrible....a one season wonder. lucky for you rick ankiel isn't that much better. they'd of been much better getting in the mix with byrd.
isn't the of a bit crowded anyway? i believe bay/beltran/francouer are your starters and pagan is just as good as matthews is . unless beltran is damaged beyond what they are saying, i can't see him being a factor.

Beltran wont be ready for the spring. The jury is still out on Francouer, and Pagan(Although I like the guy) isnt great and has injury problems.
I just dont understand why Minaya would think "Our underperforming CF is old and has a major knee problem. Let's trade PITCHING away so we can pick up ANOTHER old, underperforming OF with a major knee problem."
Get the younger guy(30 isnt young, but Ankiel has been swinging a bat for 3 years) who can give you games.

ankiel is one of the reasons the cards had to trade for holliday...his obp is terrible...he's a mediocre fielder who just happens to have an accurate canon for an arm.
