TAMPA - The University of South Florida's search for its next head football coach could end today if a deal with East Carolina's Skip Holtz can be finalized.

Holtz was contacted by USF athletic director Doug Woolard about the job Sunday and interviewed with USF officials Tuesday in Orlando.

A source close to East Carolina told the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer on Wednesday night that a deal between Holtz and USF was close but not done yet. "But they're moving in that direction,'' the source said.

Yeah I heard a report last night that Holtz publicly stated he was interested in the job. You don't do that unless you expect to be offered.

As the Vols found out with Muschamp, just because someone sits down to talk it doesn't mean they are ready to move even if the money is right. At least that is my biased hope on several layers of this discussion.

GMTM just dropped that bomb about rocco on the radio as well as Al Golden from Temple. Since both are a part of the UVA football coaching tree, im sure Terry Holland will be making some calls. i would think Golden would have the nod over Rocco because he is winning at Temple....a team that got kicked out of the big east because they were a perennial loser. Holland know Golden very well. we will see...

Ive been around the whole time (I felt the same way with all the Rocco to Marshall talk) LUconn, my general rule is that I really dont see a need to get that bent out of shape over the fact that a coach is a candidate for another job. I mean I want to see Coach Rocco stick around as much as the next FF but Im not goign to be banging my head against a wall or wringing my hands because his name comes up.

Here's my feeling on it...if Coach Rocco takes a job elsewhere...Im happy for him and I say God bless him and good luck...if he stays at LU...Im happy for him and I say God bless him and good luck (and drop 60 on SB). Either way, Im happy for him and I dont see a point in banging your head or jumping off a bridge if he thinks he can better himself. I mean look at where we are now compared to where we were after the 2005 season...I mean the fact that people are seeking out OUR coach shows just how far we have come in such a short time.

Like Lukon said, no body is doing the emoicon thing...it's just interesting to watch


We can undoubtedly get a great coach that could take us to the next level if Rocco leaves....heck Mike Leach is still out there BJ!

Wow, good point...here was his parking space a year ago at TT....prophecy???

Would Golden even want to go to ECU? I'm not so sure that's a step up. I mean he was in the running for the UVA job. I would think he'd have his eyes set on a BCS.
