The decade's best sports movies
By Steve Mason
ESPN Los Angeles
The 2000s have given us great sports movies, and although I know that not everyone will agree with my list (especially my having "Remember the Titans" all the way down at No. 12), here is my guide to the best sports movies of the decade.

I'm personally a little partial to numbers 3 & 8. :D Has anyone seen all 10?

Wow, how can the greatest sports movie of all time be in "the other 10?"

Ricky Bobby over Miracle AND Remember the Titans? Weak.

Two sports movies that need to be in the lists are:

'The Greatest Game ever Played'. It is a true story dealing with golf.

Another true story about young girls playing basketball during the 1950-60 is
"Believe in Me". Watch the extra features of the movie where you will see a girl making a shot to win the game in the movie. The neat thing is she makes this shot in her first attempt during filming and it is put into the movie. Also the head coach and his wife are in the movie along with his players during an award banquet. Again this is picked up in the extra feature portion of the movie.

I also thought the Cinderella Man movie should be rated higher then the Blind Side.

Haven't seen The Blind Side so I can't comment. I did see the Wrestler. While it was great flick with Mickey O'Rourke playing himself it really wasn't a sports movie.

Sly, The Blind Side is a must see. It's even a great date movie.

Mrs. Sly saw it over the holidays with a bunch of my family while I had other duties with my kids. But I'll catch it on DVD.

No way remember the Titans is only 12. Anyone who says its outside the top 10 needs to go watch it again and tell me how they feel. I'm sure most of you haven't seen it but I would definitely put "More Than a Game" above several of those listed in the Top 10... Great movie if your a basketball fan. And if your not -- still a great story and certainly engaging.

Dodgeball is amusing but...come on... Miracle, Invincible, Remember the Titans, and Ali should all be ahead of that...IMHO. If dodgeball is going to count, what about Gladiator??

Biggest missing name (as a baseball guy) 61*. There are some other questionable sports movies that are highly acclaimed (Best in Show) that didn't make the list...But 61* needs to be on there as well.

the wrestler was good, although I'm fairly surprised it was #1.

Agreed. "Gritty" is a good word to describe it, and I enjoyed it. But #1 seems high.
We Are Marshall is good, and McConaughey pulled off a very realistic Lengyel.

Miracle belongs on this list, no doubt. Would be my #1. I've probably watched this one the most times of any listed, along with...

The Rookie. I'm glad this one wasn't overlooked! The scene where he tells his wife and then son on the phone that he's being called-up - INCREDIBLE scene! Must-see if you've missed it to-date.

I'm at work, so I can't get to ESPN...but is Tin Cup on the list??

"Nobody will remember who won the US Open, but they'll remember your 12!!!!"

That is pure genius..I use it everytime I'm on a golf course.

The Texas-based Tin Cup was shot back in '96. And for those with limited acess:
ESPN.com wrote:1. The Wrestler
2. Friday Night Lights
3. The Blind Side
4. Cinderella Man
5. Sugar
6. The Rookie
7. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
8. We Are Marshall
9. Million Dollar Baby
10. Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
What, no love for Facing the Giants?

the blindside being #4 is a joke. Tim mcgraw ruined this movie...he's a horrible actor...it gave it a "facing the giants", "flywheel", "movie where dude from growingpains is addicted to porn" feel to it.

While I love that movie too, it came out in 1996 so it's not eligible for this list.
