Four University of Tennessee basketball players were arrested on drug and weapons charges today after a Knoxville police officer stopped the car they were riding in for speeding on Alcoa Highway near Kingston Pike.

The four are: Cameron Tatum, who was driving the vehicle; Tyler Smith, who was sitting in the front seat; Melvin Goins, a rear seat passenger; and Brian Williams, also sitting in the backseat.

Smith and Williams face felony and misdemeanor charges. Goins and Tatum face misdemeanor charges.

When it comes to Tennessee, you can't hope to contain them, only arraign them

If these accusations turn out to be true, I wonder if Bruce Pearl will have the cojones to actually kick them off the team?

Doubt it. Probably suspend them a couple games.

I'd be surprised if he even did that much. He'll just go out to the media and say he gave them a "stern talking to", which will just mean he says don't do that again. Then he'll say something like they are benched for some games, which will mean they won't start but will still play because he said they would be benched, not suspended.

funny quote from a UT message board:
"But the way the majority of those 4 shoot a basketball, I would not worry about a firearm too much."

well he got the cojones temporarily, wonder what will happen if they are all found to be guilty?
Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl plans to indefinitely suspend all four players who were arrested Friday morning and then gather more details before determining which players, if any, will continue their careers as Vols, a source has told CBSSports.com.

An official announcement should come in the next 48 hours.

Question #1: Why did their rental car have Illinois tags? I've never rented a car, but I thought most of them prevent you from taking the car out of state?

Some agencies have no distance requirements and instead offer unlimited mileage rates - AVIS
Some ask for you destination and create the Rental Agreement to include borderline states and the expected destination - Enterprise

It is rare I ever have a rental car with the plates of the state from which I am renting.

Anybody else fine it ironic to have the VT fan on here cracking on the thugs of another school?
