Tech football coach Mike Leach was suspended for ordering a player to stand in shed at the Tech football practice facility for two hours, then repeating the punishment two days later because he felt the player was faking an injury that happened during practice on Dec. 16, the Avalanche-Journal has learned.

A source told the A-J Leach did not dispute the facts, brought to the university’s attention by the player and his parent.

Leach had until Monday to write an apology and when he did not, the university felt it had to take action.

“This was not taken lightly,” the source said, adding that Leach did not show any signs of remorse or did not say he wouldn’t do it again.
The player suffered a concussion at practice on Dec. 16 and Leach thought the player was faking.

Unbelievably stupid. Woody Hayes could have remained unscathed with similar actions in 1969, but in 2009? I predict Leach will offer a public apology, be fired and be one of the top candidates for another opening at a major program in the next year.

The Pirate wants out of Lubbock anyway...but do you blame him...he's an offensive genius in everybit of the word. He would do well to go to a Big 10(11) school or conference which doesn't have alot of spread offenses. He would light the world on fire until those defenses caught up.

This reminds me of FSU and the chicken wire scandal I believe it was under HC Larry Jones, he was a coach before Darrel Mundra who then was followed by Bobby Bowden.

Maybe TT will do like UF did with Myers having a press conference saying no he(Leach) is not suspended after all.
Anyway I will be surprised if Leach remains coach at TT. Reading the story about the way he treated other players, this reminds me of the mess at KU with Mangino.

Sounds eerily similar to what people said about RichRod and his going to Michigan, yet the only world lit on fire after two seasons has been his own.

Supposedly an apology over the weekend would have ended this whole deal. But Leach stubbornly refuses to apologize and the AD had no choice but to suspend him. All that said, Tech has no intention of firing him.

Well, as an old coach myself all I have to say is that Leach was incredibly stupid. Was any damage done? Absolutely not, BUT what was the positive result? There was none. A player was humiliated and he missed out on any pertinant information being worked in practice. He could have simply observed the practice. What would have been everyone's reaction if Urban Meyer had treated Tebow this way following his concussion? If James actually had a concussion what "exactly" was Leach trying to accomplish? No real damage done, but very, very stupid in todays modern age of coaching.

Im going to disagree....how often do you see someone suspended that day the investingation is announced?? This is guilty until proven innocent based on the facts at hand I would say, if they loved him so much they could have stalled this until after the bowl game.

Which they could have done if the victim's dad weren't involved.

Myers may be tired of Leach but he realizes what would occur if he let the contankerous coach go.

This will be his only oppurtunity...if this is painted in the right light it gives him a green light to can him and then let the courts decide if they owe him another dollar. People said Kansas wouldn't let there fearless leader go either....

People I know in Lubbock are telling me this isn't the whole story, and that the kid is a brat who lives off his daddy's fame. Just sayin'.

Well the circus is getting better. Leach is going to court to coach in the game.

I wasn't blinded ... just didn't have the lowdown on how deep this ran in Lubbock. If Adam James were the whole story then Leach would still be the head coach. More details will be leaked later today and tomorrow from what I'm hearing from West Texas.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sonny Dykes weren't introduced as head coach by New Years Day. The only real other viable option this late in the game is Sumlin. Briles has to be kicking himself for taking the Baylor job.

One person is NEVER the whole story in cases like this....no reasonable person would assume that he would just do it to one kid.

Who are we to judge coaching tactics?? If it will help us score 60 points a game - I got a pretty big shed in the back that Rocco is welcome to use...

It's one thing to punish a player with say running laps around the field or suspension or something else like that, but it's 100% wrong to outcast a player and humiliate him because you think he faked an injury without having any proof it was fake. Unless your name is Bobby Knight, humiliation is going to cost you something. Merely speculation, but considering he was fired, I'm sure this incident is just the tip of the iceberg because it's not bad enough to get someone fired. Gillispie did similar such things at Kentucky and look what happened to him - if you continue to do it you'll eventually suffer the consequences of your actions.

I was being sarcastic :) But, truthfully - I don't know the whole story, but it's not a life or death situation - he had to stand in a dark place... Maybe bad judgment, but are we really going to do the whole vick thing again? Man - if the general public would get this upset and vocal about all the crimes against children, rapist, murderers - this would be a better place. We are spending 20 hours a day talking about a stupid coach who made a grown man stand in a dark room... If he really was against it - then why didn't James just walkout? From what I understand - he stayed in there...

Actually most all Tech fans are furious that Leach has been let go. Most think this is an outrage.

He couldn't just walk out, Leach locked him in the shed and had a coach watch him like the guy was a caged animal or a convict in a high security prison. When he went to sit down, Leach made the assistant remove everything from the shed the kid could possibly sit on. He wasn't just standing in a dark room.

leach is now traveling doing magic seeing how he removed the ground for the kid to sit on as well.
