This has been a long time coming. And dare I say they might make an interesting partner in a new FBS league someday? I think I will.

Charlotte is an interesting market for sure. I'll have to keep an eye on the progression there (Someplace Id want to put in a resume for radio broadcasting...NOT coaching)

Obviously the Big South makes a lot of sense for an A-10 school looking to spend a couple of seasons in FCS before stepping up. So this is something we need to watch closely. here are some pics of their stadium proposals:

First off, their initial 15k FCS setup ...

And then an expansion to 40K for FBS ...

Cool rendition. But didn't Kallander basically say a few months ago (years?) that he's not interested in taking on Charlotte as a football member?

KK is supposedly beholden to the league presidents and I have a feeling that if Charlotte's participation in football were a legitimate possibility (as it appears now) that it could happen.

Mark my words, if Charlotte is interested they will be associate members of the Big South in 2013. We are in no position to push any legitimate options away.

Well GA State is already in the CAA, but will the CAA add Charlotte considering they'll already have 12 members?

Georgia State and ODU were added when the conference already had 12 members.

Yes, but they are also full time members, they weren't added as associate members. Will the CAA want a 13th football-only member?

So, it's official Charlotte will have a football team in 2013.

Will they be in the Big South?

Big South schools wooing UNC Charlotte

In discussing the addition of UNC Charlotte to the 2013 and 2014 football schedules, Coastal Carolina athletics director Hunter Yurachek suggested that the two-year home-and-home contract might only be the start of the programs' meetings on the field.

"I know a lot of the Big South schools are scheduling Charlotte right now, and honestly we'd have an interest as a conference in trying to lure Charlotte into the Big South as a football member," Yurachek said earlier this week.

"So we're trying to get them more engaged in our conference. It's not a mandate from the Big South that we do this, but I know that there's several Big South schools that have reached out to them and we have a definitive interest in seeing if they're interested in joining the Big South as a football program."

Former N.C. State coach Chuck Amato has applied to be the Charlotte 49ers first head football coach.

That actually wouldn't be a bad hire for UNCC.

Supposedly, he's bringing a former Wake assistant with him to be offensive coordinator, who was most recently the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the Big East, before he was fired.

Can anyone name who?

Jeff Mullen is the correct answer. I am not a very big fan of his.

A poster on AGS referenced a UNCW beat writer as saying that the CAA has offered full membership to Charlotte which they had turned down. The CAA apparently has no interest in bringing them on as a football affiliate. Another poster in same thread wrote that Stony Brook is about to be offered a full membership.

Frankly it is all hearsay but where there is smoke there often is fire. I would expect some type of Big South affiliate membership for Charlotte announced by summer.

Take it FWIW

guy on a D2 mb posted this
--We hear that football isn't in the immediate plans of Anderson University.

--We hear Appalachian (UNC-Tweetsie) is definitely leaving the FCS SoCon within 3 years as a new FBS, conference affiliation presently undetermined. We hear that Coastal Carolina is poised to replace Appy once the announcement becomes official. This will put the Big South FCS in a major bind since Liberty (Jerry Falwell University) is also planning a move to FBS and Stony Brook's membership is considered temporary.

--We hear that Big South commissioner Kyle Kallander has been courting UNC-Charlotte athletic Director Judy Rose. The UNC-C ninners will begin recruiting their first football team this fall and will begin play in 2013. Rose and UNC-C have indicated that they would only use FCS membership short term as a stepping stone to FBS.

--Kallander has also been seen in the company of Pembroke's AD Dan Kenney recently. Could Pembroke be planning on joining fellow UNC system member Charlotte in the Big South?

-- Speaking of Pembroke we have also heard that Coach Shinnick is on the list for another D-1 job besides the UNC-C position.

Pembroke? Really? That has to be wishful thinking on somebody's part.

Everything else is generally public knowledge.

Hold on ... Pembroke?
