This makes me sad. If we're lucky, he'll move to the MLB Network.

Gee, big shock that a Bosox fan would be lamenting the club's top honk leaving his position of incessantly extolling all thing Boston.

You don't think that baseball is extremely popular?

It's fairly popular in the Carolinas, too. We host a few minor league teams, one of which Hollywood decided to make a tiny bit famous.

Our college freshmen & sophomores

That shouldn't matter. If you can't quote the meeting on the mound scene, you aren't a real sports fan.

having (obviously) gone to school in NC, seems like EVERYONE in NC/SC and Georgia is obsessed with MLB. Not all braves fans either, lots of Yankees fans too...
I agree its regional but the entire southeast seems to be huge into MLB coverage.

peter Gammons (despite his apparent love affair with the Red Sox which I never really noticed) was probably the guy I had the most respect for at ESPN. I'll miss him
Oh and I was 7 (or about to turn 7) you idiot

It's nice to see part of ESPN's old guard leave at a time when he still had a modicum of respect, instead of holding on to his position years after his schtick got old. Yes, I'm talking about you, Chris Berman.

No, the first line was hoping he would go to MLB Network. FFG was saying that he definitely was.

Where are you getting your information? This year's World Series had its highest rating since 2004. I'm not saying you're incorrect, I'm just pointing out the fact that it's still very popular.

The ratings aren't much different than the ratings for the NBA Finals. Is the NBA no longer popular either? It's much easier to get viewers for the NBA Finals because there is no competition from other networks due to regular programming being on reruns in June.

Correct, again.
Good job getting that information out there.

Other than the Super Bowl, what's the highest rated sporting event?
A: Women's Figure Skating.
That doesn't mean that women's figure skating is a sport.
Further, regarding baseball -- there's more than just watching the game on television. Football is a sport that lends itself to TV. Baseball is not. Part of the reason why people enjoy baseball is actually going to the ballpark. And if you look at baseball attendance, it's up (check the minor league attendance figures -- and I would argue that minor league numbers are a great indicator for how successful a sport is).
Sure, we go through eras in America where some sports are popular and others are not. Look at the sports sections 50 years ago -- newspapers covered boxing and horse racing as much as baseball. Tennis was uber-popular in the 70s. Now, not so much. I think in the future, as our nation becomes more of a wuss, I believe soccer will gain in popularity. Baseball will probably wane. But it'll never be replaced.

Good luck convincing anybody with half a brain that a non-contact sport that doesn't require you to be particularly athletic (see the many fat people that have succeeded in baseball) is somehow less wussy than a full contact sport which any exercize science major could tell is the most physically demanding in the world.
Did you just call soccer a full contact sport??.....if by contact you mean a male touching another male whom acts like he was shot after skin on skin contact than yes i would agree with that....

You are right though, this was the most watched World Series in a while...not b/c baseball is more popular, but b/c the teams in it were. The Yankees are the biggest name brand in sports. I will say though, that baseball is still very popular. It's just not with my democraphic. It falls well below NFL, College football, college basketball, and NBA in male 18-34. It sits at best on level playing field with NHL and UFC in that demo.
Ultimate Fighter won head to head in the 18-34 demographic against the Division Series games on TBS, not against the World Series on Fox. Big difference.

And ESPN will always have a good bit of baseball coverage and personnel, especially since between mid-June and late-August, it is the only team sport in the USA with any meaningful games...

Anyone who calls MMA a sport should be shot on sight...it's crap. I'll lump it with watching Nascar and golf on tv. I enjoy playing golf and probably would enjoy driving a the "48" car, but watching on tv is something completely out of the realm of possibility.
while we're at it, candlesticks do make a nice wedding gift!
