Virginia will name Mike London as its next football coach, ACCSports.com has learned. An announcement is expected at a Monday press conference.
London, 49, has spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Richmond. He compiled a 24-5 record there and led the Spiders the 2008 FCS national title.

Congrats to Mike. I hope he gets a chance to turn things around there.
Also, commence the "Rocco to Richmond?" threads.

I don't know too much about London, or Richmond but if he won the championship in his first year, is it safe to say he won it with the previous coaches players? Seems like a dangerous thing to do.

That is correct... my sources are telling me that he will bring back 2-3 UVA guys from the Groh era. He spent a year with the Houston Texans and was at UVA 2 other times under Groh... He won with Dave Clausen's players... Clausen went to UT a couple of years ago to be the O.C under Coach Fulmer... London is from the tidewater area and is a very good recruiter in that area.

I think it's more likely Danny would go to UVA as D-Coordinator than to UR as head coach. Although I don't see either happening.

Considering he was associate head coach under Groh and left that job to come here, it would be strange indeed for him to go back to be D Coordinator under London.

UVA fans can't be happy with this hire. Wasn't the whole point to distance themselves from the Groh tree?

London has a great personal story about his rise from a street cop in Richmond to BCS head coach. Prepare to hear it a great deal the next couple of days.
As I mentioned in the other thread, I am glad we are not recruiting against him in Richmond anymore. And it would be great to land some of the UR commits who likely were London fans as much as wanting to play for the Spiders.

This is exactly what I thought of. Hope to snatch up some of their recruits.

If he wants to start making strides in the 757, he needs to keep Wilt on staff.

i like the hire. though london is a part of the groh tree, he specifically said in the presser that he was his own man. he is looking to bring some former UVA players who are in the coaching ranks and i think he will keep poindexter as well. i really think that UVA talked to other people but they had zero interest.so the state of the program is at an all time low for sure. i would love to have wilt back at UVA but if not, london and the staff he brings in will do just fine in the 757. london will put his mark on the program and things will be fine. congrats to him and as sly said im glad we are not recruiting against him.
