Worst rule change in the NFL in the last 10 years

I'm using 10 years as an arbitrary number because this might not be an "all time" debacle but...

Being able to use replay to overturn a call that was ruled NOT a fumble on the field. When replay started back up, I constantly heard commentators whining about how silly that was that it couldn't be challenged. But if you take more than 2 seconds to think about it instead of being disappointed in the heat of the game, obviously if something is not a fumble THE PLAY IS OVER, and some players act accordingly. By not playing. Still, the NFL seemed to cave on that idea because of the constant whining I guess, and now we're left with players wondering if they should stop play, and potentially lose the ball or keep playing and possibly get flagged for being unsportman like. On top of that, some refs won't blow the whistle and will wait to see what happens. And then go ahead and make a call like 20 seconds later just in case it is challenged. It's unfair to the players and to the refs, and it obviously cost the Redskins the game today. Sellers didn't try to get the ball back (and I think he could have pretty easily) because the ref blew the whistle. It was the closest ref too. You just shouldn't be able to review something post whistle.

I'm not a Redskins fan.

I was pretty sure on replays that I didn't hear the whistle until the Saints' player was already picking up the ball.

And the Redskins lost because their usually reliable kicker missed a chip shot.

Well yeah, obviously, but that's not really the point.

This is not true. He's reliable when there is no pressure and the 'Skins are down 3 TDs. When the game matters--add him to the list of Jason Campbell (honestly, who really believed he wouldn't throw an INT in that situation) and LaRon "I bite hard" Landry and you have the biggest group of underachievers in the NFL.

Ridiculous.

Not only did the ref blow the whistle, he RAN IN to the play waving his hands. Cmon now, you're telling me that Sellers kept playing? That's a joke. it's one thing for one little inadvertent whistle. This was blatantly ending the play.

How about not being able to review anything...ie if a player recovers a fumble, then supposedly fumbles again...if you are going to have replay, have replay.

I haven't been on a lot of FF forums other than hoops lately but this one intrigues me. I agree with LUconn. I am not a Skins fan either. In fact I am an Eagles fan and we benefitted greatly from the new rule on Sunday vs our rival NY. They forced a McNabb fumble that was ruled a forward pass by one ref who erroneously blew the play dead. It wsa in fact a fumble and because the giants stopped playing and didn't pick up a "dead ball" the Eagles kept possession at the spot of the fumble. The Giants could have had the ball in Eagles territory.

I just recently saw this replay again and you were correct TTL. I let my enjoyment of watching the Redskins blow another game cloud my judgment of it at the time. They definitely should have let the call on the field stand. The whistle has to stop play or people are going to get hurt.
