I am really going to enjoy watching the ND alumni shooting for the moon only to find out their gig isn't as attractive as they think it is.

I hope Urban Myer takes it...I would love to hear all the gator fans crying...but I doubt that is going to really happen

Shouldn't the thread title read: "Notre Dame trims some fat"

Brian Kelly & Gary Patterson make sense but the meteoric rise of Jim Harbaugh would provide the type of sizzle that golden domers so desperately covet.
For the record, I'm not sure Patterson has the personality that would set him apart in the interview process of this search.

I think Kelly and Meyer are the top two for this job. I dont think Coach Rocco has enough name recognition to really be someone on the radar in South Bend

Heard someone say they're going to take a run at Gruden and Dungy. One team's trash, as they say.

I think the media is predicting too much gloom and doom too early. An exclusive national TV deal with NBC and the prestigue of playing for the Irish is still a huge selling point.

Dungy?? Trash?? Maybe you've be in a coma the past few years TTL but I'm not sure Dungy's name deserves to be in any post with the word "trash".. Worst season at INdy was 10-6 and went to the playoffs all 7 seasons.. Only one season ever below .500 in TB his 1st season..
Gruden def made his bed in TB by winning a Super Bowl his first season (expectations stuck even if that was Dungy's team) still went 9-7 in his last 2 years- even in his 2 worst years the following year TB won the NFC South... even still trash??
I'm a fan of Dungy (not the Colts per se as a Steeler guy)- Gruden isn't the best analyst I've ever listened to on MNF-- Not sure I'd say trash to either, but I certainly don't know why Dungy is referred as such in your post..
One could argue that ND couldn't do much worse record wise- but either of these guys have the potential to turn that program around.. I think they need a young guy like Boise State coach Chris Peterson who obviously knows how to coach at the college level in terms of preparation/recruiting/game schemes, etc.. If Peterson can get results on the Blue Turf- imagine what he could do at Notre Dame.. Just my $0.02..

TTL is a Bucs fan. They avoid having SB winning coaches leading their team.

at least they have a coach already set up so they can continue the same path without missing a step...

life long FSU fan who has wanted nothing but a good team for years now...but he has one year left, why not let the man have a farewell season? I think its time...but one more season isn't going to do anything...and then after that start anew...and I am not convinced Jimbo Fischer is the man for the job...but FSU kind of screwed themselves over on that one.

Irish fan here
I originally liked the Weis hire, but during the last couple of years,
I could tell you what play was coming next from ND. My guess is that d coordinators worth anything could do the same.
I am trying not to let my mind wander to the possibility of Meyer. That would be unreal. Dungy would be great too, but why would he do that to himself? Chris Peterson would also do a great job, but I have a feeling it is going to be Kelly. We shall see.

any job that is not texas is unattractive to sly

ND has lost a lot of luster, but it is still a good job. VERY high expectations with the way the college game is now, but still a good job.

Never said the Irish gig wasn't a good job. It is just not as good as the folks in South bend think it is. Whoever takes over that mess will spend 2-3 years building up talent base.
Frankly I think the job in Tallahassee is much better. Glad UT has risen to the spot where we no longer have to worry about Mack bolting for his alma mater.

But you do have to worry about him retiring and taking the AD job at Carolina.

Zero chance of that happening. Zero. Even Sally has no interest in moving back to North Carolina even though they still own a home over there.

I'm not saying it's happening this year but that's been one of the bigger rumors out of Chapel Hill for a few years, especially with the AD getting closer to retirement.

I know I am a notorious name dropper, but I can tell you this from firsthand knowledge that he has told me that he is done when his time coaching at UT is over. He won't need the money and he has seen Darrell Royal's life up close and wants some of that for himself. Sally loves Texas and the kids are now much more Texan than Carolinian.
Any idea of him returning to the Triangle for an administrative position is wishful thinking at best.
