Northeastern (CAA) is dropping football. That's not good. That's not good at all. There's one school out there that would fit perfectly to replace them as a football only member:

Stony Brook.

Are you sure? I could've sworn I put it in the football thread? I may have written a post out and then deleted it because I wanted to check and make sure it was for-sure happening, then came back and posted it here. I don't know.

That's what happen when you post while doing homework and watching tv.

Do you really think they would add SBU? I mean they were talking about having too many football teams to begin with with ODU and GSU coming in.

How so? Not calling you a liar, I just want to know how you arrived at that conclusion.

The key is "football-only"

Northeastern team. Better facilities than Northeastern. Commitment to getting better. Natural rivalry with Hofstra. Would even the balance out between north and south for the divisions. Their contract with the Big South ends the same time Ga State enters the league which means this year would be the only uneven year the league had. ODU would even it up in 2011, SBU could step in with GaState in 2012 and keep it at 14 teams which is what they want.

Jon, would SB insist on the CAA letting them in for all sports? Or do the non-football schools the CAA already has keep things balanced in all the other sports?

SBU would be completely stupid if they did. If the CAA comes calling for football only, you go.

@BigSouthSports hope to see #SCSU joining your conference. Soon!

Yea, I just saw where the Big South retweeted that from SCSUfans. Is this something that could actually happen or is in discussion?

The MEAC is considering dropping the AQ for the playoffs and bringing back the Heritage Bowl. This would matchup the winner of the MEAC against the winner of the SWAC. The SCSU fans (not sure about administration) want no part of it and want to compete on a national stage in the playoffs.

The regular season is over and the rumors will fly.

SC State fans would be all over it. Unfortunately it is undetermined if the powers that be at the university aren't interested in cutting themselves free from their HBCU ties with the MEAC. Every SCSU fan seems to have a different take on what their president & AD have in mind.

As for Northeastern, many had been assuming that NEC football was in possibly being revived. Obviously their decision to bail on the big dollars of full scholie football shows that not to be the case.

I think most parties involved assumed there was a strong possibility that SBU would walk after the 4-year agreement. This certainly gives that some credence.

So, hypothetically, SB goes CAA in football, but the BSC is still okay as long as PC stays. But for security, the BSC starts shopping.

SCSU is on their list (as has been mentioned). Who else?

It depends on what else happens. If the MEAC decides to drop the Auto, there will be a chance 3 or 4 of those teams will be looking. We could hopefully get at least one of them - SCSU, Hampton, etc.

Then again, if that happens and the CAA splits up we may not be in the Big South anymore. Still alot of "ifs" out there.

We also have to remember KK is in charge, so he probably won't even go after SCSU if they want out of the MEAC.

The moratorium is the elephant in the room. Upon further reflection, I wonder if Northeastern's decision was in part prompted by their knowledge of what some of their CAA brethren are discussing as we move closer to the date.

Pardon my momentary ignorance Sly, but could you explain this?
