other than the ucla games, these games are trash. and niagra plays in a high school quality gym. actually, i've seen some middle schools with a better gym than what i can see on the tv screen.

John Wall paid dividends early this year. However, I'd be a little alarmed if Miami, OH gave the #5 team in the country a run-for-their-money. UK is way overrated this year.

I agree they are overrated right now - the rankers just see #1 recruiting class and Calipari and act like it's UK's national championship to lose and that isn't the case and Calipari has said over and over again all season that they have a ton of work to do to get to that level.

There is a ton of collegiate inexperience (four freshmen getting major minutes, one juco transfer getting major minutes, and one returning sophomore) in addition to just one upperclassmen (Patrick Patterson) getting significant minutes who has to learn an entirely new system that is like nothing they have had to go through before in their hoops career. A team with that much collegiate inexperience and a team with no experience with Calipari's system is going to struggle quit a bit regardless of how good the recruiting class and coach is.

The major problems from last night can be credited nearly entirely to that inexperience - guards were playing out of control (what works in high school doesn't work a lot of time in college!), bad shot selection (Patterson didn't take bad shots, just the newbies), bad fouls, and the defense wasn't up to snuff - and they haven't worked much on the defense, virtually the whole first month of practice is dedicated to learning the offense according to Calipari. UK is very talented without a doubt, but experience is huge in college basketball and Miami has a ton of it and are a pretty well coached team as well.

Come March this team will be significantly different because they will have gelled together better and will be much more experienced. On the surface the closeness of the game with Miami is concerning, but when you put it in perspective with the overwhelming lack of experience, it's not concerning to rational UK fans. Remember, this is the kind of game a Gillispie coached UK squad would have gotten run out of the gym.
