ODU going nuts over football

With ODU football tickets, demand greater than supply

The popularity of football at Old Dominion University has mystified many, caught some off guard and led to frustrations for others. Based on a Pricewaterhouse-Coopers survey four years ago, it was projected that ODU would do well in its startup effort with football and could expect season-ticket sales of about 6,600.

What the school ended up with, though, qualifies as one of the most successful season-ticket launches of a football team in NCAA history. The Monarchs received requests for 14,859 season tickets for a team that has yet to play a game.

Only one Football Championship Subdivision program in the country - Montana - will have a season-ticket base this season larger than ODU. The Grizzlies, who cap their season tickets at a little more than 19,000, have won two national championships in the past 15 years, have posted 23 consecutive winning seasons and have been playing football since 1897.

wow that's pretty impressive. i guess they really like their football over there. hopefully they won't be disappointed with a crappy team like most first year teams are...

Completely soft schedule and a ton of home games= they will probably have a decent record. Some of the guys on the radio stations are making conjectures about what would happen if they go undefeated as far as the playoffs are concerned. There's no way that happens, but people are expecting a good amount of wins out of this team.

Are they even eligible for playoffs until 2011 when they join the CAA?

i still can't believe that PC agreed to play up there during their 1st year. yeah they come down to clinton in 2010, i guess we just gave in, or either there was some type of financial agreement.

I'll be heading down to ODU during LU's bye week to check out the Presby game. Can't wait to see all the upgrades to campus and the stadium!

I hope you all give them a good, solid beating! They, along with other CAA fans might be viewing you all as a win; some ODU fans see a 5 win season.
