Jose Canseco, whose 2005 book arguably started the cascade of revelations and an investigation into the performance-enhancing drugs in baseball, barely raised an eyebrow when he was told David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are reportedly on the list of 104 players who tested positive in 2003.

"When you tell me something I didn't already know, I'll be surprised,'' Canseco told ESPN. "And I'll tell you this, Major League Baseball is going to have a big, big problem on their hands when they find out they have a Hall of Famer who's used."

Well if they have someone in the Hall already that used steroids that really casts a pretty heavy burden on the writers because many of them went on record and said they wouldnt vote someone who was known to have used performance enhancing drugs (McGwire, Bonds, A-Rod, all the other guys from the "steroid era". All I can say is MLB better pray to God Albert Pujols or Ken Griffey Jr or Chipper Jones or some of these players who are considered virtual locks for the Hall are clean (although with all these revelations you cant help but wonder if anybody was clean)

Actually, I'm changing my "probably" to Dennis Eckersely. You're looking at a guy whose career endured a late resurgence, and was on the same Canseco team. That's my guess. Other than the two I mentioned before, who were users.

I cant speak for Chipper Jones, but I do know that Albert Pujols and Ken Griffey Jr. are pretty strong Christians. Not saying that makes them immune from steroid use, but I do think it very unlikely either of those 2 used. They dont have the typical steroidial look either.

Andy Pettitte is a strong Christian. Off the top of my head, Paul Byrd is, too, and he was on the Mitchell Report (he still denies using steroids, though).

As for Griffey and Pujols, but I think mostly Griffey because he was THE man in the 90s, during the steroid heydey... I really, really hope they didn't roid.

Pujols looks like Lou Ferrigno...People are even questioning Cal Ripken, being close friends with Brady Anderson. It's hard to believe that guys we grew up loving and idolizing could be juicing but its also hard to be surprised these days.

Is anyone actually bothered by steroids? I think the MLB is very hypocritical with their stance on steroids. Remember the lockout or strike back in the mid 90's. When they got back to playing baseball popularity really took a hit. It wasnt really til the home run race where the fans started getting back into the game of baseball. They made so much money off of the juicers such as Mcguire, and Sosa and many others. Those guys really got the fans back into the game. I got to watch Sosa hit number 61 and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I just think a lot of people are being hypocritical including the fans. I love baseball but I do enjoy watching a guy hit 70 hrs in a year.

The League probably is being a bit hypocritical. You're not a hypocrite - you're being much too honest for that. However, you are showing that you prefer to be entertained and wowed no matter the cost, as opposed to appreciating the pure feats achieved by natural athletes within the sport.

To use your example, sure a guy can hit 70 homers in his 30's if he's popping pills. But its more impressive when someone consistently hits 40-50/year by way of little more than work ethic and determination.

the hr race got me back into baseball....i stopped caring around jr high. i quit playing baseball and stopped caring....

One thing you guys forget, is that during the time the steroid allegation came up... to which some players, such as McGwire, essentially admitted to using a substance known as "andro", which was banned by all sports except Major League Baseball.

That doesn't really constitute "cheating". However, there is significant evidence (that we know now) that points to these guys using more than just allowable drugs.
