MILAN -- United States defender Oguchi Onyewu has joined AC Milan on a three-year contract the club said Tuesday, becoming the first American to join Serie A in more than 10 years.

Milan acquired Onyewu from Standard Liege in Belgium after some outstanding performances in the the United States' run to the Confederations Cup final last month.
Finally. With as many Americans there are playing in England, I've always thought that for us to get better, we need guys in the Serie A. While it's not considered the best league, it's a league that will help develop creativity and ball-handling skills, which is what the US team has always lacked. Hopefully this will start a trend.

And please, if you don't care, move on. We don't need any "who cares" or snoring comments.

I agree. The trend of guys going to the EPL is also promising, but having guys in Seria A or La Liga would also be a huge benefit...

I like this signing a lot. Milan is a little lacking in the Central Defender department so I could see him getting some playing time from the get go. Personally I think the U.S. needs more players in La Liga. It's more technical and the creativity from some of those players is amazing! I'm not a huge fan of Serie A, but the fact of the matter is that we need more players to play in the top leagues in the world so we can be a more formidable come World Cup time

La Liga would be great for american players. I also think this move to Serie A it a good one especially for onyewu. There is an overwhelming lack of ball handling skills as NG stated in U.S. soccer. I would LOVE to see us play more like Spain does. That is beautiful fluid futbol.

I'm really happy for him. He has really stepped up his game this past couple of years. He played well in the games that i saw in the confederations cup. The center backs were getting pounded and they did pretty well. As AC Milian goes... I honestly wish he went to either the Spain league or the EPL, but I'm happy that we went to one of the better clubs in Serie A.
