Great, let's increase bat speed so we can start killing some pitchers.

As far as softball is concerned all this doesnt matter...the max speed it can come off the bat is 98mph

we went to a batwars in chicago a month ago. they had a few of them in one of the cages. 1 of them broke at the taper. reebok tried this with their hockey sticks as well and its been a flop. It swung a little funky and it just had ok pop. their dictator bats aren't too shabby but there certainly are better bats for the money.

I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode where a car salesman convinces Homer that bullet holes in a car make it go faster.

Yeah, I did the math... 98 MPH is approximately 153 feet per second... which means a batted ball will strike a pitcher's face in approximately .26 seconds...

Maybe we need to slow bats down.

People rarely hit middle unless provoked. However it's 3rd that people will try to rip it down while only having a few more feet to react. It can get pretty intense not to mention since I rarely play ASA but instead USSA which has bats where the ball is coming off over 110mph

wow you play in a pretty tame league....when a guy hits a slow dribbler back to the pitcher, its apparently on here...."OH THATS HOW WE DOING IT TONIGHT!!!"

at that point its chuck and duck if you are pitching...

Yeah, well league ball we all pretty much know everyone so you know if they did it on purpose or not....so normally a simple sorry will do...however tourny ball your right...a ball that is 4 feet away from the pitcher gets everyone amped up ready to take his head off.

I'm not going to lie...I've tried to hit a pitcher a couple times but I think I'm like 0-3...not to mention they arent even hit hard....for whatever reason I can chalk either line with a shot but cant go up the middle to save my life

Big deal, in tennis we have to hit balls that are travelling in excess of 120 mph on a regular basis, and not only keep those balls in the fence, but inside the lines as well. If you're playing at the net, you're praying to God that they don't decide to hit it right at you.

uh...

tennis ball vs 12" softball
50 ft vs 78 ft
exit speed of a broken in 98mph bat (exces of 105 mph) vs 120mph serve

yes big deal...

tennis = fairy sport vs softball = girl sport

I hit a racquetball 160mph...I've been hit by a ball moving over 150mph from about 10 feet away...that hurts...it'll break the skin...but not anywhere NEAR how bad a softball (aka a rock) hurts coming off the bat...not even close

Don't worry, you don't have to defend that. Ball speeds of over 120mph on a regular basis in tennis? Not quite. A guy like Pete Sampras would average about 120 on his first serve. Any non-service shot would be lucky to reach 80.

i shoot middle for basehits in tourney play...usually right of the pitcher... i've got decent control... i have 4 hits i usually employ....pull the ball over ss/3b head, hr swing, walk the box go down the right field line, or liner over p/2b head
