COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Duke’s Seth Curry has been chosen to attend the 2009 USA U19 National Team Trials in Colorado Springs next month.

The trials will be held June 16-18 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. There will be 17 players attempting to make the 12-member roster for the USA U19 World Championships. Training camp for the 12 selected players will begin June 19 with the team leaving June 25 for New Zealand.

Curry, a 6-3 guard from Charlotte, N.C., transferred to Duke following his freshman season at Liberty. In his first collegiate season, he averaged 20.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while leading Liberty to a 23-12 record and an appearance in the inaugural CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

In Curry’s lone season at Liberty, he scored the sixth-most points (707) in a season in Big South history, while leading NCAA freshmen in scoring at 20.2 points per game. Curry, the Big South Freshman of the Year and a second team all-conference selection, also connected on 102 three-point field goals, breaking the Liberty record set last year by Anthony Smith (84).

Curry is one of two ACC players trying for the national team, joining Al-Farouq Aminu of Wake Forest. The team will be coached by Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon, who will be assisted by Southern Illinois’ Chris Lowery and Purdue’s Matt Painter.

I think this is a good thing for Seth. He is a great player and it will only help him improve. Must admit, I will have to get used to "Duke's Seth Curry"...As much as I love Duke, it just sounds weird.

They should be careful. If he finds out the Russians are better competition in practice he might defect.

Nah, he chose annoying jerks who have underachieved in their major tournament in recent years. We should watch out for England more than Russia.

No way he gets invited if he's on our roster next year.
