I know we've talked about him before on here but I wanted to talk about him again. This guy is just fun to watch/listen to. I always liked his radio show and he's the best by far on Sportscenter. He reminds me of the "glory days" of Sportscenter because he's up there having fun with it, talking to the producers, and playing "regular guy." Maybe it's just me, but he's easily my favorite ESPN person.

I never contact company's at all...but I did contact ESPN 3 or 4 years ago and told them I wish SVP had a radio show...he filled in for DP a couple times and was insanely funny

Van Pelt is the kind of SportsCenter - no one even comes close to bringing what be brings every broadcast. If he's not the best paid SC anchor, then someone needs to be fired over there.

I'm a fan! It's good to see a guy that doesn't let his success go to his head. At least is seems that way.

Huge fan. He is awesome, and FUNNY. He doesn't take himself too seriously and obviously loves SPORTS like we do.

He'll even post on message boards for college teams under his own name - I know he has posted on CatsPause (Kentucky's message board on rivals) in the past. I've always found that to be pretty cool, makes him seem down to earth (which I sure he really is if you knew him) and that he can relate to the everyday fan.

I'm the first to harp on lousy sportscasters... but I like SVP. He's easily the best SC personality.

SVP is the kind of guy that you could run into in the grocery store and talk to about sports and you wouldnt know he worked for ESPN

In an unrelated story... ESPN just announced that they're laying off some of its workers.
...you know, if you didn't pay Rick Reilly millions and millions to do 'whatever he wants', you could probably afford the $30,000 needed to pay the salary of the production assistant that you're getting rid of.
*note: I liked Rick Reilly when he was working for Sports Illustrated. I wish he still did. I think he's a great writer, but something happened when he left that I can't really explain. As for Sports Illustrated, it's not the same opening to the back page and reading ... ugh... Selena Roberts.

Is it any of their on-air talent?

I'd bet that most of the on-air talent has contracts, so no. I do know, though, that some of those whose contracts are expiring / just expired (*cough* Stephen A. Smith *cough*) didn't see their contracts renewed.

I have lots of friends there and they are all sweating bullets. But who in the media isn't nervous right now? TV & radio stations along with the daily fishwrap here are all laying off folks in droves.

im happy that turico is being replaced by Ryan Resullo, probably spelled that wrong. He and Van Peezy make a good tandem. I still like the Herd better althought the fourth hour made it a little redundant.
-Stephen A is done at ESPN per thebiglead.com a few weeks ago. Thank goodness
-Also, they are ruining baseball tonight with the guys like Fernando Vina and Eric Young. What a joke

Yup. Kruk is pushing it. Olney, Gammons, Ravech, Kurkjian, and sometimes Phillips are good. These former players are terrible.

To the left, could not agree more, I even miss Harold Reynolds compared to these guys. Winfield isnt all that great either. Timmy K, Jayson Stark and Gammons are barely on these days. They are digging in the bottom of the barrell for these guys

why anyone would want to hear his constant ramblings on Kobe and hearing how stuck up Kobe's hind parts he is, is beyond me.

stephen a. freaking never moves. if you watch him, he just shifts his eyes, his head and body stay the same. Cant stand the guy. I turn the channel as soon as I see him.

Thankfully, we don't have to suffer through SASmith anymore. What irritated me the most about him was that ESPN used to employ David Aldridge, an actual journalist, before hiring SAS. But ESPN wanted style over substance... and I think that's why the network has been in decline for the last few years.

Speaking of baseball tonight, my favorite show, you guys are right some of those guys, vina, ey, perez, they are ruining the show. Winfield is barely tolerable, Orestes is decent, kruk is ok, singleton is good, gammons is knowledeable but lacks as a tv guy,
Olney is good and the hosts are good except for berman on Sunday night and he is awful. My favorites are timmy and buck. Steve philips is a cocky know it all who doesn't have a clue.
